I wouldn't jump to say they are a junk trans. They have clocked many hard earned miles on them. The last on i sold I got $1300 for with the cummins adapters. The guy installed it in his 92 dodge 250. Called me a year and a half later to tell me it was the best thing he has ever done to the truck...

Call de-stroked......You wont be impressed by there reps. Also not all 8.1's used a chevy bolt patern trans. Some had adapters to go to sae #3

I am trying to find a stand alone controler for a allison 2200 that I have. The 1000 & 2000 should fit with out to much trouble. Not shure on the 3's. If i have any luck with locating a controler I will spread the word. (everyone at the the trans places i have talked to seem to be dumber than rocks)

Think you might wanna find a smaller trans.

90's style rear axle. Would be your best bang for your buck. Stronger axle shafts for one.

:ditto:Or as said, Jack both rear wheels up. Leave truck in park, 2wd. turn one wheel SLOWLY, if it "locks" and you cannot turn it, its a Detroit.

You would also need to re-grind the camshaft to make it worth while. Engines have "valve overlap" , compressors do not. Compressors also pump every cycle.
