That Cummins NHC 250 is a beast. They sound real purdy, and have more than enough power. As long as you are willing to lift and haul the parts for a 5 ton (most are big) and pay for the parts, you should be fine.
Just reading through this thread, and I noticed you're out of Dutchess Co, NY, there Recon. Whereabouts up there? I spend my summers up in Rhinebeck and Red Hook.
Gimpyrobb- I am so sorry things turned out the way they did. It was a wacky-arse day all around here. Hope y'all are able to get your stuff moved safely and are having fun in the warmer climes!
Re: RE: 2008 Clinto gathering
Don't worry, I'll be there. It's in the same state as me, the old man can't argue with that. I may even get crazy and bring the M37, or a mostly put-together-so-it-runs-and-drives M37, to this.
Glad y'all made it home OK. Good luck with the trans. problem, but with the rally next weekend, all of the knowledge and all of the slave labor (OK, helping hands) you should have her fixed right up!
I don't believe pressure will build up until you are completely done. You will probably pull the hubs and drums and take a look. If there isn't anything that needs to be replaced (I'm not familiar with Air/Hydraulic brakes) they will probably need an adjustment. (on my M37, I replaced the master...
RE: duece noob......have some questions
Welcome to SS! My advice (as a non-deuce owner, but I know a couple and have read about others' experiences here) is to get a privately owned deuce. Preferably from someone you know. From Government Liquidation, you can get a deuce from $1500-$2500...
I think that you should go with the 816. The Cummins NHC 250 engine is a horse and a half, and I guarantee you that you will find yourself doing more than just personal recoveries and moving junk around the yard.
Good luck! Traffic through ATL ain't that bad on the weekend, except for they're doing construction. http://www.wsbtv.com/traffic/index.html has good traffic info for the Atlanta area.
Wow. These beasties look like fun! Until you have to pay for them. Bit too big for me- but they sure seem to be capable of overcoming whatever you throw at them!
Re: RE: stuck deuce
I can't help myself from laughing sometimes when listening to folks talk about their new trucks. Wait until they break down and it costs $500 for the replacement of a $5 part...
