Nothing about my 40-year-old deuce is safe 'by modern standards'... single-circuit braking, no shoulder belts, no impact energy absorption features or, perhaps most importantly, no rollover protection. But I like it just the way it is!... If Bill Gates offered to 'spare no expense' in...
I got to hear the sound... My memory goes fuzzy VERY quickly (lead poisoning?), but I recall thinking it had to be either an injector nailing or a rod knocking. At the time I thought it was probably an injector (coking from SVO?), but if they've all been swapped out... I'd be surprised if the...
Sounds like fun! Walker's is just down the street from my house... literally 1 mile. And I'm always up for a trip to Barstow to poke around! My work schedule is chaos, just shoot me a PM a day or so before you want to go...

Those are some good things to check...
Just to clarify a few things for you:
-The pressure relief valve is down by where the main air line connects to the tanks, it has a pull-ring on it's spindle so you can check to make sure it is not stuck shut. The air governor is on the firewall in the...
The front grille/guard things are around and should be fairly cheap... lots of trucks get scrapped and that piece is not usually missing. Walker's here in Hesperia has at least 3 of them and he would probably be the most reasonably priced (760) 244-8060.
There are others that would have it...
A buddy of mine had one of the older Prelubers on his Dodge and it wore out prematurely, too. It was also very noisy even when new. Preluber's entire product line was redeveloped a few years ago... new pump and motor design. They're supposedly a lot better now.
The heavy duty 24 volt model...
Looks like the engine data plate says mfg. in '77... If they replaced the tach when they replaced the engine, that would be good - the engine would have only 231 hours on it. How do they know that the total hours is 2300?
One of the gauges was obviously replaced or disconnected - 61,482 miles...
I wonder what the longevity of a Cummins 250 is? The recently revived thread about converting to spin-on filters or adding anti-drainback valves or pre-lubers to a multifuel is fresh on my mind... and how the filters draining back to the pan taking the crud back with them contributes to a...
It's just a different way to do the same thing, air pressure boost vs. vacuum boost. Smaller vehicles like automobiles, jeeps, M37s, etc. use vacuum boosters because the gasoline engines produce enough excess manifold vacuum that it can be stored in a reservoir and used to assist braking...
If MV collectors are anything like coin collectors (defects are some of the most valuable coins!), you had better get your bridge truck's data plates insured... and I would get the maximun amount of coverage they will sell you!

It's a shame they scrapped it... I remember the company that owned it was willing to sell it for only the scrap value, but IIRC the combined scrap/salvage value was around $1.5M.
I've visited Big Brutus in Kansas, it's the second largest...

Boyce claims to have repair / replacement parts for the 3053a 'always in stock'... I'm sure there are many other sources.

I need new wood too... I measured NOS wood, for a deuce it's 13/16 x 2-7/8. Sheesh. Are you guys buying 1x3s and planing them to the correct sizes?
Jon
What do you mean Kenny? Are you suggesting double-clutching? I can see that for 3rd to 4th, but 4th to 5th doesn't seem to need it.... Am I wearing out my trans?
Jon
Wow. [thumbzup]
If I had half your talent I'd strut around like I was king, and if I had half your motivation all my projects would be complete... I can hardly wait to see it done!
