    Road trip oct 10

Is this pup trailer ex-military? If not, I assume the dolly is civilian, too... or did you put a civilian 5th wheel on it? Will a civilian dolly and trailer's conventional air brakes work with the military truck air/hydraulic brake system? Would a military dolly and trailer have air/hydraulic...

My 1953 Diamond T M52 tractor "parts truck"

Joel - Next time I'm up at Barstow I'll ask about the Hiab, they have several different ones there to chose from. Of course shipping would be an issue, but if the price was right... As for putting a Hiab on a 5-ton, how would you do it Bjorn? Starting with, say, an M54 cargo truck...

    Axle Boots

Thanks Lee, I remember those tips from your thread on this topic a while back. I also remember your frustration at those boots when they kept popping off the axle! I'm glad I won't have to go through that... I'm sure that, like you, I would have followed the TM exactly and had the same...

    Axle Boots

Ah, I see now. I thought Kenny meant he was going to tear apart the work he had already done! Did these trucks come with zipperless boots when new? It would make sense, that the zippered boots would be meant for boot repairs without teardown of the axle... Are these zipperless boots NOS or...

    Axle Boots

Okay guys, I was following this thread just fine but now I'm confused. Zipperless boots lost me, I had never heard of that. How do you get them on? I thought the zipper was necessary to get the boot over the end of the axle... Kenny, you said you needed to "do the whole thing over again"...

    First deuce

$2000 + $350 for a 120 mile round trip tow home, though all it needed to get it running was batteries and a fuel pump fuse. Jon

Almost blew the multi, Check your throttle return spring!!!

I'll bet that was a surprise! If anyone is unsure what their engine governor's no-load speed is set at, it's easy enough to check... just slowly put the pedal to the floor and watch the tach. I can't remember what the exact spec is right now, but I'm pretty sure it's not more than 2800 rpm and...

    Fan belts

TNJ Murray lists matched sets for $28 in the M35 section... There's different part numbers, it probably depends on which alt. or generator you have. They'll know which set you need. http://www.tnjmurray.com/ Jon

My 1953 Diamond T M52 tractor "parts truck"

Yup. Barstow Truck Parts. The price was contingent upon the condition of the engine and a successful test drive. However the mechanic at Barstow who put a battery in it and aired up the tires said that to his knowlege it hadn't moved in 10 years! Typical Detroit, though... Even after sitting...

My 1953 Diamond T M52 tractor "parts truck"

Wow, an $1100 wrecker? I think I'd have been up for a road trip in my deuce to drag it home! I spent a little time on Olive Drab looking at the different wreckers... the different series are a bit puzzling to me. For example the M62 and M543 look identical... What's the difference? Just a...

My 1953 Diamond T M52 tractor "parts truck"

Hi Ken & Group, I think it's like what Bjorn said - It looks better in the pics than in person. Even if I could have a rust free cab and fenders, the frame of this truck is a mess both front and back... It's full of welds and cuts, repairs and attempts at straightening. My preservation...

    XM757 details

Hi Bjorn, I know they say the multifuel engines self prime well, but my truck had not run in many years when I bought it, and to prevent having to crank the engine excessively I loosened the metal lines at the injectors with a tubing wrench. It took only a few seconds of cranking before I could...

My 1953 Diamond T M52 tractor "parts truck"

Hi group, I thought I'd share some pictures of my 1953 Diamond T M52 that I recently purchased. It is somewhat unique, in that it was remanufactured by Memphis Equipment (probably a long time ago) and has their aftermarket hood, fuel tank, and other details. It's most unusual feature, however...

    Towing M35A2 with M911 HET

I bet that 8V92 sounded great... Long live 2-stroke Detroits! Jon

    XM757 details

Bjorn, if you can't wait for the fuel pump, there is a cheap and easy way to bleed air from those fuel lines that I learned from the fellas in the 2-stroke Detroit Diesel forum I'm on... Use a rubber fuel primer bulb from an outboard motor fuel tank for a boat. They are available at WalMart on...

    Stalled Deuce

Devilman - Just a thought here, but I wonder about metal fatigue of the copper lines due to the vibration of the engine? I think that's the reason the lines always change from copper to rubber when they get to the engine... copper will eventually crack. Something to keep an eye on anyway...

    An XM757 FS in OK

Wow, that's a nice one. I love 8x8s, but personally I would want a wrecker, cargo truck or shop van over a tractor... Jon

    Oil for power steering?

Hi Group, My M52 tractor is leaking red oil from the steering gear box and the reservoir is low... My initial thought was to use hydraulic oil or power steering fluid, but the LO says OE10. Motor oil in the steering gear? Seems odd, I would think hydraulic oil would be better, but I'll flush...

HELP - How do I install a Bridge Plate

Hi Lee, There is indeed a lot of info in the archives here about bridge plates, but the PS Magazine article has everything you need to know, including the appropriate TMs if you want something more in-depth...
