    15w 40 Rotella Vs 30 weight oil

Personally I use Chevron DELO straight 30w, but for cold weather I'd use DELO 15w-40. I'm a locomotive engineer and at Los Angeles' yard's diesel service facility they have a 10,000 gallon tank of DELO 30w. DELO = Diesel Engine Lubricating Oil, and if it's good enough for 4,500h.p. V-16s, then...

Pimp my ride - MV style...or lack thereof...

YUCK!!! Sure makes the "Malibu Deuce" look good, eh? FWIW, I'm not too far from the seller, so if there are any serious buyers here, I can take a look for you... It looks to me like the Rockwells are not actually installed in that Blazer, just sitting behind it... This truck could...

    Primary Fuel Filter Trouble

I realize John is busy and not on here every day, but can someone post a pic of this? How much does it cost? I think it's a great idea. Jon

    Now I'm a liar

Maybe Wellman's and AC's plugs are actually made by the same manufacturer, they just stamp them with a different brand and put them in a different box... Other variations would be voltage and blade type, but if the distributor doesn't sell AC plugs then it must have come from the factory in the...

    Engine problems?

The most baffling part to me is that it won't fire on ether. The only explanation I can think of, other than zero compression (which I'm sure you would have noticed!), is that the ether is simply never making it to the cylinders, which I would think means air is never making it to the...

    Interesting brake problem/ resolution.

:ditto: Thanks DH! I had been looking in the automotive section, too... where they keep the WD-40 and all the other oils and silicone sprays... seemed logical that it would be there. I wouldn't have thought to look in sporting goods. Big-5 sells it too, but that's a lot farther for me to...

Wow, how much?! Inquiring minds want to know... I had been meaning to find out from them. I have their M35 repower catalog which is nice and descriptive with lots of pictures but no prices. I had predicted at least $15-$20k, but I would assume a 4-53N crate motor is included, which itself...

    XM757 Transmission fluid and filter

That's great that it's got a retarder, they work really well. I can't believe Allison included retarders on those transmissions but the Army never bothered to hook them up... what a waste! I really like your 8x8, it's fun to read about all the innovative features it has. So far the only thing...

Ah, I see now. The big gas engines kinda fascinate me, but I'm not sure I would want one either. I do know, however, that I'd rather have a gasser in my deuce than a 6.2! Personally, I would keep the gas engine until a good deal was found on a more appropriate diesel, preferably an inline six...

    Craftsman compressor on sale

Mike, These days you've gotta watch out with Craftsman... Not all of their tools are made in USA any more. Particularly their power tools and air tools are primarily made in China and Taiwan, and the warranties they give on them ain't what it used to be. If you are going to get an import...

    Aervoe military paint...Any comments?

Hey Big Mike, I like Bjorn's idea of taking a sample of paint, like a small can of the appropriate Aervoe color, to your local Sherwin Williams (or other) paint store and having them match it in a nice oil based industrial enamel. If I didn't already have 5 gallons of Gillespie 24087 here at...

    XM757 Transmission fluid and filter

Well, that picture doesn't make the oil look so bad. Looks like slightly dirty motor oil. If it were my truck, I'd still use whatever Allison says over what the LO says. They may both be essentially motor oil, but the Allison product may have application specific additives that improve...

    New member question here:

I wondered if he is not seeing slightly dirty GAA grease... Be careful mixing greases... best to probably dis-assemble, clean, and use fresh grease. Any modern lithium base grease is suitable, I use Chevron DELO grease (Chevron lube dealers carry it, not auto parts stores), but I like Mobil 1...

M813-A1 dump conversion. Will my idea work?

Very cool! Nice work, I like how you kept the look of the original bumper. [thumbzup] Jon

    Primary Fuel Filter Trouble

That's great! Got a pic? How is this made, is it something CNC cut from solid aluminum? I was planning to buy a filter mount from NAPA and converting that way but yours would save a lot of work. Regards, Jon

Now yer talkin! Although I think a 71 series would be too tall, crank center-line down to front axle. NAPCO makes a conversion kit to put a Detroit Diesel 4-53N in a deuce, and it requires slightly limiting suspension travel to not wipe out the oil pan... a 4-71N would have the same issue but...

    XM757 Transmission fluid and filter

Yuck! That oil looks pretty dirty. Hopefully the trans is okay. I definitely agree about not mixing ATF and OE, but I don't think Allison C-4 fluid is "ATF" in the normal sense, where we think of the light ~10w red colored fluid like Dexron... The MIL-L-2104 spec is the spec for OE so if C-4...

    Master Cyl

It's probably leaking into your air booster / hydrovac / air pack or whatever that thing is called... $30 and you can rebuild it in a day or $100 or so gets you a new one on eBay. Jon

    Jumping out of gear

Wing Attack Plan R - YEEEEE Haawwww!!! I'll concede that I have no direct physical evidence to support what I said, it's just something I remember being told... I had an old Toyota that popped out of gear in reverse and it was easy to prevent by simply resting my hand on the shifter, which I...

    XM757 steering

Delrin is a very slippery plastic, with many similarities to Teflon (both are made by DuPont) except Delrin is harder and less subject to deformation under pressure. If those joints have Delrin inserts in them, then as long as they are not sloppy or rusted solid I would think they are okay...
