When you do that, all it does is drive up the resale price. Way to help out your fellow SS members.
Obviously they were going to either a surplus dealer or to someone that has export trucks under contract. Its not like one guy was buying them up to hoard them.
How much searching have you done?
Start here,

Or here for welding vs rivets...
Good luck. When it comes to GL and SS rumors run rampant. I know there are some here that have a link to the contract but it was way over my head so I gave up on it.
I do have a problem with the fact (if it is a fact and not a rumor) that GL owns the "surplus" before it is auctioned off. That...
You just have to keep an eye on the GL website to see whats coming up in your area. Search this site for all the in's and out's of buying off GL.
Oh and just so you know if you spot a truck you want to bid on dont post on here about it till the auction is over. If you need help checking it...
Do you have a VFW or anything like that in your town? I'd contact them and let them know how the members of your town council feel about historic MV's. Let them know the town is specifically writing laws just to keep you from driving your MV. You, the members of the VFW, anyone else on your...
I know no one wants to give in, and I applaud you for standing your ground but that town does not sound like anywhere I'd want to live anyways. I say start saving your pennies, sell the house, find a place just outside of their jurisdiction and do everything that they cant stand.
The only problem with this thread is that you hoped no one else saw what you thought you saw then you posted about it and basically yelled out "hey everyone look at what I found" now I guarantee you will have more competition on it now.
whos buying tires and bearings for that much? obviously someone that does not buy "surplus" or salvage yard stuff and only goes directly to the dealer for "new" parts.
The military has storage yards everywhere. Drive around Ft Riley and there are yards full of Deuce's, 800 series, and 900 series.
Not to mention that they ( the govt. ) seem to move trucks around on a whim.
There's a few threads floating around that discuss welding the sprag but I have yet to find any definitive "how to" on how to do it.
You can also put a valve in the main airline going into the trans. to basically disable the sprag. So you could weld it and go full time 6x6 or put in the air...
So who buys these trucks for their driveability? As soon as I get the deuce bed w/dump capability on my 818 the next step is 14 or 16's. (I'm leaning towards the 16's)
