    Recovering Sarge's M49C

Yep Karl, that was quite a trip. The deuce we got from you was every bit as good as you had described it. It is the best running one we have ever seen, and it is still going strong. Great truck! And we really enjoyed meeting you. We drove from your place to Illinois and picked up the other...

    Sarge rides again!

Actually, I think I will tell that haircut tale anyway. Are we sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin- One day Sarge is sitting at the farm and tires of working on the herd of OD assembled there. “What shall I do now?” he ponders, “get a tattoo? No, too complicated. I know, my Brain...

    Sarge rides again!

I will go poke the bear again, maybe tell him he can't have any more tea until he writes it up... (That's more of a threat than it sounds to most of you!) Or I might threaten to tell the tale of that haircut... Cheers

    Recovering Sarge's M49C

That sounds like too much fun Wreckerman. Knowing the difficulties of removing a pucker-induced seat cushion from one's afterburner, I really want to avoid that experience. Bet it was satisfying to get to holler at someone though, gets that pent up steam out nice and quick. :) Thanks Bjorn...

    Recovering Sarge's M49C

Ahh, well he would have had to have looked in the back of Sarge's Suburban since that's where the chain was when the picture was taken, like the caption says "getting the tow bar hooked up". We were not on the road yet...

    V-100 Crew Member Vietnam 71-72

Very interesting, that is the only Vietnam era Army V100 I have ever seen camo'ed. We will have to make sure Earl sees this, he wanted to do camo on his. Driver, you have some excellent pictures, keep posting! Cheers

    Recovering Sarge's M49C

I'll see if Sermis has any, then look for alternates or at the drilling idea. nk14zp..what chain are you referring to? It isn't in any of the photos. Cheers

    Recovering Sarge's M49C

Now I feel like a total dumba**! I read the tow bar manual in the past before I ever used it, and just never clicked on those pins. I guess I was busy assuming they were the ones already on the truck and missed the obvious. I just read it again, and it is blatantly obvious that they are a...

    Recovering Sarge's M49C

"Correct pins", hmmmm... I used the pins from the 813s front shackles, so those are not what go with the tow bar? I have previously missed that point, so it goes to show you can always learn more. I always thought those diaper pins (very appropriate Kenny!) were wimpy, now I need to do...

Fantastic pictures Driver, thank you for posting them. And Jeff, I am really looking forward to your pictures. There are just so many details to be found on "in service" photos, like the sirens, extra equipment, white tow rings on Flash, etc. Even the dates on the edge of the photo are...

    Recovering Sarge's M49C

Thanks guys. Gimpy, fortunately we were out in the boonies and the only one nearby when the tire went was Sarge, who was following me in his Suburban (if possible, always take a chase vehicle!). I would have paid to have seen his face, he said he came perilously close to dampening his trousers...

    Recovering Sarge's M49C

Sarge and I went on a mission this morning to recover his “new” M49C tanker. He bought it sight unseen for a couple of hundred dollars. It is a 1962 gasser, runs, but has iffy brakes. It had been used as a fire tanker, but the city had retired it and was going to sell it for parts. They had...

Where to buy paint, Gillespie maybe?

The "383" refers to the three colour green/black/brown camouflage scheme. As Jasonjc said, the individual colours have their own codes which identify them from the Federal Standard. When someone says "383 green" what they are actually saying is "Green Fed Standard 34094 as used in the 383...

This may sound crazy but... READ ON

FreightTrain, I had not seen that tandem front axle "thing" before, if you have more pics like those, I would love to see them. Maybe on a new thread though, since that would be hijacking this man's thread. Cheers

    Need V-150 door for test

Best bet might be to make "official" contact with Textron Marine and Land Systems (who took over Cad. Gage) and see what they tell you, or if they can provide an item for you to shoot. That way you would get the most accurate information. Cheers

    MOG trailers ?

That is very nice Tokarev. Question- what are the whitish squares on the front sides of the bed? Lights? Cheers

    MOG trailers ?

I have an M101 to pull behind my Swiss Mog. Looks and tows good. It is slow, but then it is slow without a trailer... Since my Mog doesn't have air for the brakes on the 105, I don't pull it. I'd like to have one of those Swiss trailers, but too spendy for me. Cheers

    Huey flight time

Thanks for posting that. I enjoyed reading it, brought back memories. My bird was a bit bigger (CH-53) and our jungle was post-Vietnam and somewhat closer, but the experience was similar. There is still nothing like flying while leaning out in the wind, where you can feel and smell what's...

    "Screwed" up Russian ZIL

The sound of that thing on concrete is NOT something I ever want to experience! The one I used to see trundled about through mud, weeds, water and whatever slime was to be found in the estuary at high or low tide. That was back in the mid-70s in Ireland. Nowadays I'm sure the...

    Help needed identifying M813

On a Marine truck, the USMC5##### actually is your official VIN. They were built by AM General. Texas didn't have that in their system, but asked me if it was the same as American Motors, I replied "Of course!". If it might help narrow down the year, mine starts with 521 and is a 1973. Cheers
