Interesting machine.
The US tested similar vehicles. In 1964 Chrysler developed the Marsh Screw. My 1972 copy of The Observer's Military Vehicle Directory gives speeds of 20mph in snow, 9.5 on water and 14 on "muck". It apparently could only manage a dismal 1.6 mph on sand!
I actually saw...
Looks good.
One issue is reduced airflow through your radiator. Buddy of mine mounted his there, his truck immediately started overheating (it was during the summer). Took the tire off, no more problems.
Cheers
Sam/Pawnshop's M35 came from GL with those tires, singled on the rear. I drove it 80+ miles home for him, during the course of which we did San Antonio/Austin city driving, interstate, and the Texas Torrential Rain test. The truck handled much better than I expected singled out like that...
Welcome aboard Tim. I know your Reserve center well, drilled on the Marine side back in the 80's.
A local guy uses his deuce as a daily driver and welding truck. It is quite a climb, but it will help keep you in shape! And you can carry a lot of stuff back there.
Cheers
You should have a special interest in David's book..
I understand he is also doing another V100 book, which should be out imminently. Looking forward to that.
Another excellent book is "Armored Car" by R P Hunnicutt. JimK turned me on to that one (thanks Jim!), it has a superb...
Thanks Bruce! It was in super mechanical shape when I got it, all I did was change the belts and put in new batteries, then drove it 200+ miles home. Cosmetically wasn't as pretty, but some elbow grease and paint work wonders. I left as much original as I could though.
Cheers
The rear wheels go on the opposite way around of the front wheels, the same way you would duals, but without the inner wheel. This leaves the rear brake drums inboard of the wheels, which looks a bit odd from behind, but does keep them cool. The single rears use the same lug nuts as the front...
Both nice books and cover different aspects of the V. Unfortunately Lathrop and McDonald's book was limited by Osprey's 'standard size' format, they will only make a book "so thick".
(For clarification- by the above I mean they had a lot more good material, it just wouldn't all fit in the...
Congratulations on getting your dream vehicle. That is a gorgeous truck!
Sarge has an M820 (the one w/o the lift deck) it is huge inside when expanded.
Cheers
Those are great Dan. Thanks for taking and posting them. Beautiful vehicle.
Is that the same V on the trailer in your "Personnel Carriers" section, or do you have two?
Cheers
Seems to be at least two types, sometimes both are/have been seen on the same vehicle, as in this case. If the attached pics don't answer your questions, I have a couple more that might.
Cheers

Cedric, funny you should mention "Freejack". The blue one in that movie is one of the V's being restored by an SS member. It has it's turret back now. The red one Mick Jagger rides around in has also been restored to its proper colours.
It's a fun movie, especially if you like V100s.
Cheers
The original grill was the tubular one, but it tended to hold water and rust out. With that in mind (since they have a bad habit of driving them in the sea), all Marine 800 series trucks were delivered with the slat type grill, never the tubular. I don't recall if the grill was already...
Welcome Cédric.
I don't know if you have seen it yet, but there is a whole section of the forum dedicated to the V100-
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=46
There are many good pictures on there already. There are several V100s being restored by SS members at the moment...
Those look really nice on there David. Too bad about the rear wheel wells, though larger replacements would be easy to make.
How is the braking with the greater mass?
FWIW, even with the 10.5's the gap between 5th and 6th gear was too big, I found that mine actually drove/accelerated better...
