    WTB: M142 cradle for M60

Thanks for the clarification Moose. WGTac, if you do come up with a better way to lengthen or lock in the short pin, would you post it? I am not vested in the re-welding of mine, better suggestions are always welcome. I had thought of machining a hole for a cross pin further up the long pin...

    WTB: M142 cradle for M60

Gerald, the long pintle M142 seems to be a rare item, according to the manual it was a Marine Corps specific item (don't know if that is true or not). I was thinking of converting one of my short pin M142s by welding the pin from an M23 mount (no, not destroying a good one! The yoke was...

    Tank ID

And if any 'normal' folk had seen what we were squabbling over, they just wouldn't understand! "Harold, why was that guy all excited about an old military fire extinguisher dated 1973?? And what is a V100??" :-D I ended up with someone's WWII cigarette packs in my tail light box, I need to...

Mark, it was a pleasure meeting you tonight. First time we have had six Steel Soldiers in the room- Sarge, Barrman, mkcoen, Pawnshop, Iron7, and me. Not a big deal for the guys up north, but for those of us in central Texas, which is only close to other parts of Texas, it was pretty cool. Cheers

    Anytime, Admiral sir! Cheers

    SEABEE Truck Paint Color

383 Green is 34094. 34079 is commonly called Forest Green, but that is not an official name. It is a common colour used for equipment, such as gun mounts, etc. It is also the darker of the greens used on USAF aircraft in the green/green/tan Vietnam era scheme. 34079 is a little darker and...

As regards nose art on my V, I am still struggling with myself over final paint job, ie what point in my vehicle's history do I want to represent? I do know that the beast in the attached picture is going to be painted on the turret hatch. My younger son spotted this on the nose of an Apache at...

OK, I Can Take Bad News

I replaced the tach cable on the 813, it took about 30 minutes (but I'm slow). The cable came from Saturn, I think I paid $28 plus shipping (2 years ago). I haven't done it on a deuce, but don't imagine there is much difference. Hope that helps and offers a little encouragement. Cheers

    5 ton bob axle locations..

Option #21344536- right click the thumbnail and "open link in new window". Once it opens, right click and save. I just did that, it worked. The tires look 16.00s, they are bigger than the 14.00s on my 813. Axle location looks pretty close to where the rear axle was originally, perhaps a tad...

Here is one from the 504th that I have as wallpaper on my computer. Date on this one is 1970, always liked that dragon. The little windshield added for the driver is interesting too. Jeff, I will email you about two damaged V's. I don't want to post the pictures of those. Earl, I am really...

Okay Jeff, here is two thirds of your wish granted! The one on the far left is "Unexpected", the one second from the right is "The Grim Reaper". I haven't found the the one second from the left. I thought picture 3 was it, but looking closer I see it isn't. I can't make out the name...

    New V-100

Thanks guys. It is coming along, but slower than I thought it would. Who ever heard of a MV restoration going over the allotted time?? :-P And Jeff, coming from a man who used these as a work vehicle, that is high praise indeed. I hope to do it justice. Cheers

Thanks, that answers a lot of questions. I had heard the M73s were troublesome. My turret traversing gear isn't in yet, but I did get to spend some time in another restored V. I had wondered at the time how much practice it would take working that wheel to get coordinated enough to be good...

    New V-100

Thanks Sam. I went back and read the post, it was Elwenil who actually mentioned the M60 light. Still want to see the pic you are referring to. I have also seen some Vs with lights attached in various ways to the gun tubes. One had a strip of metal welded across the top of both, with holes...

Well Jeff, we will gladly look at the pictures again if you will tell us about them! :-D Did y'all use the turret guns much? It seems a lot of effort went into mounting other weapons on the vehicles and I see a lot of pictures of V's with the turret guns covered. I understand the obvious...

Some engine questions for you guys restoring V100/V150's

Transmission is the New Process 541 5-speed. 1st gear is locked out by a plate unless the 4-wheel drive is engaged, to keep it from twisting shafts. Cheers

Some engine questions for you guys restoring V100/V150's

I can't add to the engine discussion, just bow respectfully toward B3 and Jim for their knowledge on V100s. I can however post pictures! (And yes, I need to clean all that workshop dust off, it'll get done before it gets finished going together) Cheers 1- looking in right side door toward...

Jeff, those are great! I've seen pictures of Catch 22 before, cool to now get details from someone who actually crewed it. And little details, like the black in the paint (which explains why some of them look so dark) and the 'trim' on the wheels/tires, that you can provide from personal...
