Sweet! I think the vast majority of them picked up some bruises in service. I like to think of them as battle scars some GI did not have to take. Mine has a couple of dings too, but no rust, not even in the corners of the doors. I should figure out some way to preserve it. Rhino lining...
We would like to run a couple down there for a convoy, meeting, trail ride, we just need to know when. If our schedules can be bent enough, we will be there. Glen
That is a sweet machine!
ActionStarCBRxx brings up a good point. Take a flashlight with you and open the glovebox door, now pull the cardboard top down a little and look under the dash for signs of mice or rats. Those pesky little varmits can do your electrical sustem lot of damage. Generally...
That is what my M1008 was sprayed with. It still had not fully cured everyplace when I picked it up and a couple of weeks later it was set pretty solidly. It is a little smoother than the original paint, but I really like it. They did not bake mine, sprayed it, left it in the booth overnight...
It takes 2800 rpm to run 60 on a 33" tire. These engines are much more effecient at 1800 to 2200 rpm. It takes almost 2700 to run 60 on a 34" tire. If you target 2200, we are talking about 48 mph on a 34" tire. I know both of my M1008s sounded like they were/are humming at 45, which is about...
Frequently, you can sneak by leaving the radiator cap loose so the system cannot build pressure. This time of year it works better than in the summer when you are fighting heat. You may lose a little coolant, but it will be minimal.
Westech has the best solution though, use the adapter...
If you are not one to be in a big hurry on the road, go for it. I drove my M1008 everyday, until I bought the M1009. I still prefer to drive the M1008 except for longer road trips. It is nice to cruise at 65 instead of 50. That being said, my M1008 is nicer to drive. It goes straighter in the...
When this guy gets loaded with gravel, his trailer is longer and heavier than his truck. I doubt there is anything about his rig that is not safe though. I disagree that length is necessarily a dominating factor. With the proper set up, you can safely pull a longer and heavier load than your...
Those guys with day cab tractor pulling 53' trailers 70mph all day long are in deep doo doo by that standard. So are the guys pulling 5th wheels behind their dually pickups.
My M1008 on my brother's trailer weighed more than his Extended cab F250 pickup. It was probably longer as well. That...
U-Haul and I am sure many others rent a nice car trailer with enertia braking. The tongue basically is set up to collapse a little and as it does, it engages a master cylinder for the trailer. I rented one to pull a 1970 SS Chevelle I bought in Pa (got screwed) home with a 4Runner. I had a...
Kansas has some strange towing laws. Regardles of what you are towing with, if the load is over 10,000 pounds, you have to have trailer brakes. Among others, here is the killer. You must be able to stop your combination within 40 feet at 20 mph.
I think a lot of us are missing the point here...
I paid too much at GL for my M1009, waited over 60 days for my EUC to clear, drove 800 miles round trip to get it home, now have been waiting 30 days for my SF97. I am thinking it is worth a few hundred dollar bills to be able to go look, drive, pick one out and leave with a title. The repair...
I used a Toyota LandCruiser FJ40, the old style, a 1973 model, to pull firewood out of the trees along the river with for a long time. I would haul my saw stuff in the cruiser and load the wood on a two axle 16 foot trailer with no trailer brakes. I was stupid overweight for the 4200 pound...
Not sure I would run 55, but I would do it as well. The M1008 will spin that M1009 around like a top in a panic stop. Drive carefully and two intersections ahead. If you get stopped by DOT though, it would have been cheaper to rent a truck. Glen
