I guess I should have asked...is it an MEP-003a or the 002a. 2 of 4 cylinder? I'm assuming it's the 4 cylinder 003a. I believe that most of the parts are interchangeable between the two though.
You lucky dog...I see that you have one of the elusive NATO slave cable adapters on your set...I...
The engine model is and Onan DJFM. The same as the Civilian DJF model. Parts for the engines are hard to come by. I have some on hand from my sets. I just sold an engine to smokeyjoej to rebuild for his set, he told me he got some new head gaskets and other smaller parts from a local Onan...
Farmun,
From what I understand the biggest thing that delays them is if they have a hard time verifying your address. They do it usually with your phone number that is in your name. I don't know if that's the case with you or not, but maybe they are having trouble with the address...
I only had to make revisions to the first one. I keep the signed one I originally faxed in on my computer and edit the event number and date signed so I can e-mail it each time I have another one to send....just keep re-using the same one over and over. Same with the export letter.
My 003's are pretty stable, If you have a good bungee or even a marine battery box you should be fine. You'll need an o-ring to go along with that oil filter. The one that comes with it is not the correct one to seal the can.
I use the NAPA 5108 (Wix 15108) o-ring gasket on my oil filter and...
aboonski,
I don't know where all they could be used on a deuce yet, because I still have to pick mine up, but I can tell you this much. We use them all the time at work and they are soooooo much nicer than a zerk fitting. If you find a place to use them, get the proper coupler and put one on...
They are not complicated to use. Just read the manual and a lot of it will clear up...remember that these manuals were written for 18 and 19 year old kids fresh off the farm. They are pretty simple to understand. Any further questions feel free to ask.
Use the search feature of the website...
1. If you do change fuel filters you do not really need to have two filters and one sediment bowl like the original, but I would recommend a good water separator filter and maybe a second, finer fuel filter. The mil did it this way to make sure you have good DRY CLEAN fuel going into the...
I haven't bought any but I know NAPA sells them. They can even go through the books and find you a few filters of different micron ratings that you can use. Like crazyployboy said, put in a water separator...maybe even filters with separators built in.
Thanks, I went back into the site and tried again. Last night when I tried the search feature must have been really really slow, and made me think I couldn't get into them. I tried again after your post and now I have the manuals I need. Thanks again.
It's not that I can't get into the site. I can't gain access to download the manuals because I'm not affiliated with the military, I can't fill out the system access request (SAR) to be able to download. Is there anybody out there with LOGSA access who can help out with these manuals, or tell...
Spades,
I wouldn't be too concerned about these things wearing out any time soon. Remember they were built for the military, which means they were build to last.
Yes, they are air cooled, but it's still a diesel. With proper care and maintenance diesels run a long, long time. Ask some...
jasonjc,
I just bought an ENG-3 up in Sparta at Ft. McCoy. I don't have access to LOGSA, do you know of anywhere else the TM would be or could you possibly download them and e-mail them to me????
Have you fired it up yet? They have mufflers on them, they're under the shroud covering the heads where the two exhaust tubes come out. Additional mufflers probably will not help because most of the noise is just because it's a diesel and not exhaust related.
If you have 15 acres, I doubt the...
Rat,
you're right, loud is relative. If I lived in town and had neighbors, I'm sure my sets would be a lot louder bouncing off of houses and such. But as it is, way out here, the deer and squirrels don't much care how much noise I make...LOL. Plus, as I said, my tractor is about as loud and...
Good luck finding one, unless you can find another generator with one on it. I have 2 of theses units without the ASK's and I don't think that they are that loud. I had to use one just the other week when the power was out for about an hour. They are sitting about 50 feet from my front door...

Maybe you could pick it up in the morning of the 22nd. That's when I'll be picking up my deuce, and hopefully my trailer. I sure would appreciate all the help I could get. I'm sure you don't need any help picking up a trailer, but I would be more than willing to assist!!!!!
Yes, the fittings you are showing in your picture are "Button Heads" The go in the place of your standard zerk fitting. You need a special coupling for your grease gun to use them, but they are a lot nicer to use then a zerk. Once the coupler is on the fitting, it doesn't come back off unless...
