Please keep in mind these trucks were made for convoy speeds and off-road capabilities, not to go fast.
You are, after doing any trans upgrade limited in speed by the 2:56 diffs and the geared hubs that are geared down 2:1.
I won't do any other upgrade other then the 4L80E...the rest is Jury rig...
No one makes a kit for the 6.2 6.5 anymore, they are out there, just not new.
To add the 6.5TD will set you back about 20k...if you want it done right.
engine complete 10k, 4L80E trans 1500-2500, 242 tcase 500-1000.
body harness 1800.00, get where I'm going...that's only the major items...you...
The slantback is a useless truck with the 6.2, and only marginally better with the 6.5, they leak, have no visibility and leak when raining. Turbo diesel will get it going mucho better...but still done expect miracles.
these trucks were NOT designed for speed...this is a weekly conversation I...
To be fair, I see a lot of stuff purchased direct from mfg"s as excess, overruns etc...if the govt never owned it, they can in a lot of cases, sell it...unless something in the contract forbids it. I find most of the times when I deal with companies that do govt. Contract work, they won't talk...
Yes, most of the time....the X-pattern doors are not, they are thin Kevlar.
one of the trucks in the auction had them. They are low threat, fragmentation only.
At my base, we have m1152's with the old X doors, stenciled on them is "for training only".
It's alway been , armor and weapons...
I wouldn't go that low on a 35k full frame off...and that does depend on the level of detail, motor, trans and tcase option the rebuilder selected....but the rest of your statement is spot on.
the pushback from purchasers from the recent auction are just those folks who IMHO did no homework, and...
Ditto on everything you stated....been there, done that, seen that...still goes on today in my unit. At my base, it's all civilian mechanics. 6.5 was direct replacement for the 6.2, referred to as detuned with V belt setup. The A2 had the 6.5NA from the factory.
Only fools bought those trucks at those prices...or plenty of extra cash. Those are prices for registred, titled trucks...some just got bit by the bidding frenzy.
you are in fact correct...the name Hummer came from troops not wanting to say HMMWV...AM General got the name from just that and trade marked it.
I was driving Humvee's in 85 when they came out...seems almost instantly the name was around.
I shoot the CARC in a cheap,30.00 paint gun, can throw them away when done. Most come with a 1.4 to 1.7 tip.
Thin the paint with MEK or equivalent.....my paint jobs turn out gorgeous. A cool day is best, not cold, not hot...70's is great. practice on cardboard...thin till is shoots clean and no...
Ditto
90% every truck through my shop that comes in with something wrong that could have been prevented via PMCS.
99% of owners, are just operators....I could tell you storys that would boggle the mind.
I have owned MUTTS' MB/GPW, deuces etc....they all issues...even more when they are not taken...
You will hard pressed to find a part on a tactical vehicle that is not CARC.
The Luverne brush guard was not...but they did not last long in the system. The tubular guard is now standard.
either power coat or apply the CARC system...it is not just paint and is considered a coating, not a paint...
Buy the correct one from Kascar....should be 180-195, as cold as it is there, not sure if it isn't normal...I'm in calif, my shop, truck never get to temp...fine by me, and fan clutch stil comes on, so my gauge is most likely off.
