Start with changing the filters and then making sure you have good fuel flow. While the IP will pull enough fuel you can still make sure the in-tank pump works correctly (open secondary filter bleeder and turn on power). That's where I would start.
While you could put a different transmission in the truck why not just buy a heavy duty crew cab 4x4 Ford or Dodge with a diesel? Saves work and time, unless you have both to throw at the problem.
Easier to support while you are on the trips if you have a problem as well.

I have over 2,400 miles towing a 101 and that's just to the Georgia Rallies. The A2s tow great empty and full. You can get the mag lights at Harbor Freight or Tractor Supply. (HF $9.99 on sale) and you may need the adapter depending on whether you have 4 or 7 wire female on the Murano.
