If the truck dosen't have a air shift I doubt it's a '89. Post either the VIN number or the registration number and I can tell you if it's really a '89. If your front end isn't pulling it sounds like you have a problem with your sprag.
You see alot of trucks comming from GL with the tailgate steps on the front. They do work better but I can see them getting damaged if you do alot of offroading.
You are right. On the one I had you really couldn't see much out of it. I only kept the mirror because it's kind of unusual and thought I might add it to my keeper as a conversation piece.
I can see where he's comming from. Doesn't matter what he paid for it but what he can get out of it. If he gave $100 for it but it's worth $3,000 and he needs $3,000 to keep from going bankrupt then the $100 he gave for it is a moot point.
I do agree it would have to be a last resort though...
When my brother got his m1008 it had the standard GL bent driveshaft. We replaced it with a driveshaft off a '80s 3/4 ton. As someone else has said, it was a little shorter than the stock shaft but we picked up the back of the truck with a forklift to make sure the shaft wouldn't fall out...
When I was wanting my first deuce I tried to justify it to myself. I had big plans for it and still do. I've got a bunch of dirt to move (working on a dump conversion) and need a haul rig for my backhoe (but haven't bought a trailer yet). I did use it one time to haul a welder across a wet field...
It wouldn't suprise me if they were illegal in CA. Seems alot of stuff I see (mostly cemicals and such) says on it "not legal for sale in CA". It also seems just about everything causes cancer or reproductive harm in CA.
The only issue I see is it looks like the tires will contact the fenders over rough ground. We run into this alot installing fenders on civilain trucks with alot axle movement as a 5-ton has. By the time you mount the fenders high enough to clear the tires at max travel they are so high you run...
Ok, I didn't know it was there. The bulb must be shot on my brother's because I've never seen it light up and the rad. was almost dry when it came from GL.
I remember seeing a add when GM came out with their IFS. It showed two stumps with tracks going over it. One set of tracks was a Chevy and the other was Ford. The Ford stump had a grove cut in the top from the diff. ( they were showing the added ground clearance of the IFS). What they failed to...
My brother has a m1008 and I don't think they have a low coolant or low oil light. They do have a high temp and low oil pressure light but that has nothing to do with the fluid levels. Well, I guess it indirectly does but that's not their purpose.
My cousin hauls roughly 20,000lb. of logs on rough logging roads on his m35a2 I sold him. The axles are on the stops. Is it safe, no. Would I do it,no. But he does do it. I told him he was going to get himself killed but that's just the way he is. It's a wonder he's lived this long as this is...
I haven't tried it but I was under the impression that the horn would not work if the 3-lever switch was off or on black-out lights. I know that's how my m715 is but I could be wrong on the deuce. Seems logical because you wouldn't want someone to hit the horn button durring BO conditions. When...
Are you sure you have a deuce t-case? A deuce t-case just has two outputs and is about 3 times the size of a np205. I haven't looked at my deuce drivetrain that much but I'm pretty sure all the shafts turn the same direction also.
I had the same problem with my horn only working sometimes. Come to find out it was the juction block on the drivers side firewall that supplies power to the horn. The connector was loose and wasn't making connection all the time. I've run into this on several of the military pin type...
