This is a general call out to all here.
Is anyone replacing their axle boots at this time ? If so can you measure the diameter of the top and bottom grooves the boot sits in. At this time "bulldogger" is attempting to make some boots out of heavy duty "Ballistic Nylon" material. He has a new NOS...
The transit department made me do it. Not trying to prove anything. Really, who in his right mind would want to do that if they didn't have to ?
If you where a semi-truck operater you are required to bring in your truck and take the inspector for the test.
Your basically taking the test with...
WOW ! Someone really got their knickers in a bunch !
I never said anything about you not wanting to help the community. I was referring to my efforts which you really seem determined to discredit. I wonder way ?
In your first response to me you said the diameter was 2" after I said the "Gillig"...
Well I will just say this. When I used to replace the sway-bar bushings you had to really squish them in and use an impact gun to tighten the bracket. So that tells me that the bushing is "under-size" for the shaft being used.
As far as "every sway-bar system looks like this" that is so wrong in...
I don't feel buying a good running "used" engine is rolling the dice. These engines are pretty strong and can be expected to last years. So finding a used engine that has been giving good service would be a pretty safe bet to give you pretty good service too. Trying to get your over-revved...
Your states must be the most lax in the US then. In Washington State they take the CDL "very" seriously ! I took my last medical two years ago. Yes I'm retired, but I just wanted to keep my CDL for another seven years. Our state requires the Doctor to be certified not a clinic. I got my medical...
Not anymore. My last physical for my class "A" CDL was a real pain ! I needed to get my blood pressure down. It was 150/80 . I needed it down to 140/80 minimum. That is a new Federal Standard. No fudging the papers anymore. If your blood pressure is over 140/80 you only get a six month medical...
There is a 1/4" NPT plug under the oil filter housing that is the actual oil pump pressure. I have tapped into that along with the one on the passenger side which is pressure reduced. That way you can tell if the pressure valve is working properly.
The main galley pressure is around 100 PSI...
Actually that is pretty good news ! Sometimes it takes something like this to motivate me into actions that I've been meaning to do for years sometimes !
I've been meaning to remove and rebuild that steering gear, but what a pain in the butt job !
I've been meaning to paint that engine...
Like I mentioned earlier. I don't know the actual size of the Gillig sway-bar. I just assumed it was 1.5" . It very well could be the 1.67" that "JonMolander" measured. That is why I said to get a hold of Gillig to find out.
I am retired from the transit department so I no longer have access to...
I agree with all comments here. Your really just "rolling the dice" on an engine that has redlined like that. Bent push-rods come from valves hitting the pistons. Period. So we know you hit all six pistons, two severely enough to brake the lifters ! That means you can have severe damage not only...
If that sway-bar measures out to be 1.67" then the factory "Gillig" bus bushings should fit .
At $30.00 a pop, that is not a bad price. https://www.ebay.com/i/192820634269?chn=ps
Gerhard. I've said it before and I'll say it again. You need to post up all the diagrams you've made over the years so we can download them. It would be a tremendous help for all I believe.
You don't want to remove the rod if it is moving freely. What you might have to do is remove the "Hydraulic Head" to see if the push button has fallen off the (what I call ) the compression rod. It is the rod that actually pressurizes the fuel. Go to the posts that "porkysplace" mentioned. There...
That is a "Welch" plug (freeze plug) that was modified to allow the horn wires to go through the steering box. You will need to reinstall that plug and pipe assembly. It is hammered in, so you will need some sealant and a punch and hammer to reseat it.
If your not using the original horn wires...
