I had an Air Force Air compressor MC-2A that used a HATZ air cooled engine to power a rotary air compressor. The motor is small in size so it would be good fit. Here ia a picture of the motor inside the compressor trailer:

Here is another possible source. If you can get the power unit from a all-terrain scissors lift or boom lift it should be able to handle your hydraulic needs. The engine is small footprint and some are gasoline/LP combo units.

Runaway does not necessarily mean that it is getting fuel from the fuel tank. It may be burning engine oil as fuel.

If you tested the connectors feeding the bulb and are ok then its the bulb. Since hi beam works it is not the ground.

DH I am surprised you missed a clue to the Truck/engine. The spin on filter next to the alternator was a dead giveaway that it was the turbo diesel engine on the A2 5 ton trucks. (Since this is posted on the 5 ton section)

Yep they look right but ouch on the price.

The thermal switch that turns on the fan clutch is repairable. I and other members have taken it apart and reconditioned it. Usually it needs some lube and possibley a couple of o-rings. Its fairly easy to rebuild. Mine works fine since I lubed it.

Seems like a small dump for such a long truck. Maybe make up for it with taller sides so it can carry more stone/sand?
