    M989 11 ton trailer questions

RWBROWN72, the M989 is not a lowboy. If you are looking for a lowboy for you M818, start looking for an M172/A1. Even those trailers are heavy (when loaded) for an M818. The M172/A1 weighs in the range of 18,000 pounds unloaded.

Retirement of the Tracked M270 MLRS

RWBROWN72, I am sure you are right. However, imagine being on a battlefield somewhere. Now imagine it just rained...or previous incoming rounds turned the field into the moon. Now, try to drive over it with an FMTV (which is no more capable off-road than an M939 series truck...and if it is...

    M989 11 ton trailer questions

There is a reason that the specified tow vehicle is a HEMTT. Think about it.

Retirement of the Tracked M270 MLRS

Thanks for sharing. That is crazy IMHO that they are doing away with the tracked variant. Wheels...can never replace tracks. They can only augment them. It does not take a rocket scientist to understand that a wheeled vehicle CANNOT go where a tracked vehicle can.

    Doubtful! :)

Kenny, you submitted you post just as I was typing mine. Sorry for the duplication.

How do I haul a trailer without using air brakes?

1-1/4 ton trailer? Do you mean 1-1/2 ton trailer? Are you talking about an M105, M332, M149, M103, or similar trailer. If so, you don't need air to release the brakes. You can haul them with any pick up truck or other truck that does not have gladhands. With that said, be careful, because...

    Whats it worth

...or you could use your $1,500 to buy a complete truck that is stock from GL. I love the idea of saving trucks, but it would probably be cheaper in the end to buy a truck that is the way you want it, rather than trying to put this one back together (assuming that is what you had planned).

    remanufactured M818's for sale???

There might be some quality differences between the tan and camo rebuilt trucks. I don't know. 2OLD2SLOW, are the trucks in your motor pool camo or tan? Perhaps, they came from different rebuild facilities.

    Unloading my new M35A3

A transmission rebuild from Allison will set you back more than you paid for the entire truck! I know because I had the transmission in my M925A2 rebuilt by Allison. I would exhaust every possibility first.

    M51 question

A nice multifuel dump (rust free, nice paint, good rubber, good runner) is worth $7,500 retail (add a grand for a winch).

    remanufactured M818's for sale???

Watch out. I would inspect. I talked to John Murray and he said that he is not impressed with these particular rebuilds and he has had several. I had no idea what he meant until a friend got two. They are not as nice as they look in the pics. One of my friends trucks looks mostly rebuilt...

    M105A3 marker lights

So, tow it home and check the bulbs once you get it back. If you are really worried about a marker light that is out, take a bulb out of one of the red side marker lights. No one will know it is missing.

    9 series hood clearence

The M939 series is much more than an M809 series with some reworked sheet metal. As others have said, the cab is much wider to start with. There is no way...that will look reasonable...to adapt an M939 series hood to an M809 series cab. Guys want to try to do what can't be done. I say...PROVE...

    GL moving your bought lots

I had an M35A2 moved from Chambersburg to Meade. It worked out for me because I live about 45 minutes from Meade. I asked the GL site manager in Chambersburg who I know well about this and he told me they reviewed the addresses of the guys who bought stuff and only moved stuff if they were...

    Ridiculous items flagged during inspection

In terms of the defroster, why not install a fuel burning heater? There are kits available for sale on this site, I believe. I realize you said you won't be driving it in the cold weather, but it would be nice to be able to! M109GUY had a good idea about the sun visors. If that falls...

    Maryland deuce owners

Same. The beauty of GULFWAY is that you don't need to keep your trucks in a locked garage. JMH4X4 is correct...GULFWAY does not allow for everyday driving, but they also don't have any mileage restrictions so it would be fine to drive your truck to a show in another state for example. The...

    It's soooooo Tan

I love the MERDC scheme, too. Were M35A3s ever painted in the 4 color MERDC camo scheme? I have never seen one painted this way. I suppose some unit could have opted to paint their truck in this scheme, but they were rebuilt in the early to mid-90s after the the 3 color camo pattern had...

    It's soooooo Tan

Since you will be painting the truck and the hood needs work, do yourself a favor and find a fiberglass hood to replace the older hood with the patches and rivets.
