I know for a while there the old deuces and M135's where selling to "survivalists" and the prices got jacked up pretty good. Then they started to buy the later model LMTV's (newer and easier to get parts) so the demand for the older deuces has gone down.
Yes, that's exactly right ! You come along and offer a decent price and they get offended and say your trying to rip them off ! They know this because they saw it on a show that this old military stuff is worth a lot of money. That has happened to me several times now. I usually say, "well...
I would just run it through a strainer. DOT 5 really doesn't go bad just from sitting. It will change color from Purple to Amber, but that is about all. So get that little crud out of it and use it.
Mine was one of the three last deuces sold out of Fort Lewis. All where gone after that. So I had assumed they used it up to the last day before listing it. They kept it in great shape though, which I'm thankful for.
I forgot to add that I also use "Opti-Lube" in all my fuel. Though again in this instance I didn't add anything. I also agree with storing the cylinder at top dead center to keep the valves closed. This engine though was one of four that I have as spares. Like I mentioned earlier, I usually...
Mine had around 26,000 miles on it. I thought it was a great deal ! Only paid $3000.00 for it. Almost no rust, but the soft top was coming apart. Replaced that with a hard top from my 1954 Studebaker REO M35. Had to drill new mounting holes, but it has worked great ever since. Just need a new...
All you guys back East have a much easier time finding good deals on old military trucks and equipment then we do out here on the west coast. Especially in the Pacific Northwest. Everyone thinks they have "gold" in them parts and price them accordingly !
From my personal experience diesel full usually lasts a long time before degrading. Of course the manuals still say to change out the fuel before storing. Usually I do what the manuals say. I think the fuel we are getting now is not as good as the older stuff. Remember there is only a small...
That's another thing. I always keep "Pri-D" in my main 300 gallon tank. I just didn't use that fuel on the smaller MEP-501's though. I just used a 5 gallon fuel can with fuel from the local service station. Usually fuel will last over 5 years or more. Easily ! In fact I have used untreated...
That's what the wife said !!!!
Still it has been cold and rainy here, and working outside makes my knee ache like crazy !!!!
What really makes me mad is I know better !!! I just didn't do it. Getting lazy in my old age I guess.
I've found that even at 25 PSI that if that ring does come off it can still cause a lot of damage. I never inflate the tire unless it is caged or chained. All my old instructors and every manual I ever read has also said the same thing. I've been around them when the ring came off and it is very...
Not that I know of. My last deuce was an 1988 Air-force unit from McCord Air-force base here in Washington State. Picked it up from Fort Lewis/McCord seven years ago.
Just be thankful that your smart enough to take advantage of your work situation. I worked at a place that had NOS stuff back to the First World War, but I did nothing !! They had 4ft X 4ft X 4ft bins full of NOS Hyrda-Matic transmissions bands still in the original wrappers. Complete NOS...
