I was referring to the ability of the relief valve to handle high pressure to relieve the system of the high pressure grease, thus preventing blowing out the seal. As far as the ability of the grease to go all over the bearings with the low pressure of the relief valve. It is no different then...
I'm sorry if I ever made you feel stupid floridianson, that has never been my intent. In fact you are one of the most knowledgeable ones here on the fuel injection pump I've come across. Especially considering you never had factory training on pumps like I have had the opportunity to do. You...
Get a tester. What happens is the chemicals in the coolant breaks down and then it will no longer work as it should, ie: keeping the engine cool in summer and keeping it from freezing in winter. Also the additives help in stopping rust formations.
A cheap tester will work OK for this test. Or...
Keys are much cheaper to make then splines. Also keys are never used as "fuses" . When they go they cause extreme damage to the shafts and gears. Get the hardened "alloy" woodruff keys.
I need to edit this post. "Keys" used to be used as "fuses" when they where made from really mild steel (can...
Totally agree. I still remember a class I went to on oil filters (work related) . They had all the major brands represented. All cut in half. You could see right away which had the better material. The kicker though was thee "used" filters they had cut in half. Again all the major brands...
OK, I agree that my "pressure greaser" was more then likely the culprit here. But it can happen. Also my system did not have that felt washer you mentioned. Maybe it was decided by the military to delete it, or the last soldier putting it back together forgot it. Who knows. The whole point of...
Same goes for around here too. They just use "off the shelf" glass now. Cheaper and easier. I still haven't found anyone to replace the rear window glass in the deuce. The cab came off a 1954 REO so the glass is smaller then the larger M35A2 glass. I might just use Plastic and be done with it.
That is one of the reasons I will never use "Fram" filters. The other is they are the worst at catching material. I only use "WIX" now. "Baldor" is also an extremely good filter.
I knew I had these pictures somewhere. Here is what happened to me greasing my trunnion bearings.
This seal is rubber, "NOT" felt like Gerhard said. I bought this truck right off of "Fort Lewis" so it was never in civilian hands until me. That means the military installed this seal. That...
That's another reason I like Australia. They have a lot of IHC trucks there and they love them ! I had over 20 IHC trucks after working for IHC in the 1970's . Loved them dearly, especially my 1980 Scout II . Sadly had to get rid of all of them.
No place to keep them and no time to work on them...
The cost of a ticket and the 20 hours flying time kind of puts a kink in things. I would need to fly first class as I cannot get in and out of those stupid cheap seats anymore. The last time I flew coach/business class I almost pissed my self trying to get out of the seat ! Now I know I would...
Here in the States we tend to "idolize" Australia as a wondrous place to visit. Beautiful beaches, reefs and so on. We seem to forget that Australia has some of the deadliest snakes and spiders and such in the world ! Of course I would still love to visit there !
It can get damaged when jacking up the truck, or hitting an object when off-roading. Personally I don't think that would ever happen, well maybe the jacking up the truck part could.
When I first did mine, I used my "Lincoln Power Grease Pump". I should have paid more attention but I just sat there holding down the switch and that thing pumped in grease like crazy. Before I knew it, it had blown out the seal completely !!!! I tried to "push" the seal back but it was...
That's a fun feeling when your engine runs away like that ! At least you got it under control before you lost a rod or something else. Check your throttle linkage at the pump again. It "must" move freely, and return to the 7 oclock position on it's own.
