the info about 3053 trans is wrong. all have .78 od, all take the same parts. the A does not mean it is a different trans, just some small change`, but not gearing. do 5 tons have 6.72 final drives and 9:00x20 tires?? it seems to me that the deuce already has 28% od which is not very much
what...
randall, i'm just giving you facts. it is obvious you are just guessing about ratios and comparing 5 tons to 2 1/2 tons. a stock deuce will never go 75 ever. it is just impossible. mine runs 62 at 2500 rpm and just has enough power to be accepable with .71 od gear set in trans. if you add bigger...
you are confusing % with ratio, to get your final ratio multiply the .78 you already have times the ratio of the aux box. you need the aux to have .91 to .88. any more than .88 just won't work, there is not enough torque. you are deluding yourself and others to think any deuce will run 75 with...
you will have to run the main trans in 4th (direct) to use the 5831,this will give you better od than stock but lots of work to do it. the 7041 still gives too much od. the 6041 is doable but is real high and probably usable only on very level roads.
.69 final od ratio is all the multi can...
so i finally had time to do a definative mileage test. something scientific, no guess work like how full the tank is.
around town 30 - 35 mph stop and go, 7 to 8 mpg
varying traffic 48 to 52 mph, 10 mpg
steady 45 mph rolling hills, 12 mpg
steady 55 mph rolling hills, 12 mpg
loaded with 8,000...
pinion brakes are very bad for highway use, you cannot control which side locks up, and if one side does the other will want to turn the other way. real bad idea for service brakes. parking use only.
if you want to fix yours, i have all the parts and they are cheap, also i am very close. if you brought the trans to me, a rebuild only takes a few hours..............
the thing to watch for is that the top and bottom tank must have the propper joint, i. e. a u shaped part that the other piece goes into before soldering. many of the US made mil rads do not have this and they WILL fail. ask me how i know. (no don't)
my deuce with power steering, greatly improved brakes and high overdrive will be at aberdeen. come drive it. it will throw you through the windshield it stops so fast.
tom
if it was empty you have a leak you need to fix before you drive it since it has single circuit brakes. you do not have air brakes, just air assist. the sound is probably comming from somewhere else and just sounds like it is in the bell housing as there is no connection that i can think of.
clean the engine and see where the oil comes from, the valve cover gaskets and the breather assy often account for a lot of seapage. i have a dog from holland!
RE: air line
i would not use clear line as it is probably not uv resistant. air bkake line is nylon inside, reinforced, and uv proof black material on the outside. it is made for a working pressure of 120 psi and the fuel system only goes to 70 psi. it comes in all the standard sizes, now is a...
