Now when your wife complains about your "silly" military hobby, you can remind her of this last storm and power outage !
You can start by saying " wasn't that nice that we had that military generator to provide power during that storm in 2018" .
"It's a good thing I collect quality military...
Wouldn't that also allow using the larger bearing for a M35 hub flip instead of the smaller weaker bearing there now ? Or would the hub housing need to be bored out ? Can it be bored out ?
Totally agree. When the power goes out here they always say it will be back on in a few hours. That usually means the next day ! Since I have to sleep with a "ByPap" machine I need power.
That is one of the most common problems after rebuilding the "Top End" of an engine especially after adding a "Turbo" . You've returned the engine to stock compression or beyond (with the Turbo) and now the old rings cannot handle the pressure.
I just used a heavy grease on mine. Since there is no seals to keep the grease in having a "zerk" fitting to replenish the old grease might be a good idea. I almost did for mine but since I'm still in the modification stage I thought I would wait and see. I also went with "stainless steel" pins...
I normally don't come here since I don't own a 5 ton. Also it reminds me of all those years working at "IHC" on those dirty Semi-trucks that just got off the Freeway. ARGG !!! I just had a "flash back" of replacing bushings in a walking beam on a 100,000 Ibs trucks "Bogie" suspension !!!
Here's a couple of diagrams I came up with to make a Hydraulic ram system for opening and closing the tailgate.
Maybe some of you engineers out there can look at this and tell me if it would work ?
The first two are of the same design. The first shows the tailgate in the up position and the...
That's great news ! Maybe we can really come up with a totally workable solution !
I did buy a left and right spring. I just need more materials before I can install the right side.
No kidding ! I still have 5 units I need to get running again. My wife says to just take them all to the scrapper ! She just doesn't see the "big" picture ! Mainly something for me to do with my time now that I'm retired.
OK, that does make a "huge" difference ! I hope you have the answer to your question now. "Gringletaub" has an excellent explanation for the perch modification. Along with his most excellent graphics ! Love Gringletaub's graphics ! Just wish he would put them into one section where they could...
Don't you just love those young pups just out of school who have "all the answers" ! Just ask them ! They do have all the answers, just the wrong ones !
I still remember getting out of trade school and starting my apprenticeship training. The old mechanic I was first assigned too told me he...
Maybe you can help me find some proper springs. I looked for over a week on the net to find something that would come close to working. I don't know springs like you do so a little help would be much appreciated. :D
I looked long and hard at the "Gorilla" springs. I just could not figure out a easy way to mount them to the tailgate without a lot of fabrication. If you have a good way to mount it I would love to see it. I know my idea is not the "end all be all" answer, but for now it is working. Later when...
I just viewed "TwistedOaks" post again. Man I wished I had seen that before starting this project !!!! I like his idea of "cutting" the tailgate flange instead of bending it up like I did. I will go back and cut mine off now too. I see he didn't use any kind of spring bushing though. I found...
