Yep the filter supported by the personal heater is for the transmission! I just replaced it. Here is the picture again of mine installed: You can see the transmission filter in the background.

1600 will not fit the Deuce unless you LIFT it and separate the 2 rear axles apart. The axles are too close together to accommodate 1600's. Also you will have major power issues as well as braking issues with such large tires. Even a 5 ton like an M818 has power issues with 1600.

The transfer case issue is present on all the M939 series truck. There is s solenoid that locks the lever in place. If you disable it you will be able to shift the lever much easier.
