I would second the opinion on getting a gear reduction starter. They draw less currant and have less heat build-up. The starter still spins the engine just fine to.
If the original was a 1/2" line I replaced it with 1/2" poly hose. I did upgrade a few to 3/4" . Those where the air tank main hoses, and the main compressor line was one size larger.
A kink in you lines could cause a lot of problems, including heat build-up. There should be two steel lines from your brake booster about 12" long each. One is the pressure side and the other is the return side.
When I got promoted to E-5, I was also given the great responsibility of "parts procurement" in the motor pool! I didn't realize it was a drudge job until after my first day of filling out forms (in triplicate of course) . I also learned about the massive amount of waste in our procurement...
Just be sure to seal the cork. All cork that comes in contact with diesel needs to be coated with a varnish to seal it. I cannot remember what kind of varnish though. Our busses used a cork ball in the automatic fuel shut-off system. If the varnish wore off they would stop floating.
Yes and no on the oil cooler. Remember the radiator will either heat it or cool it to 180 degrees. Oil in a steering pump doing hard use can reach temperatures of over 250 degrees fast, so the cooler would be a wise choice. I personally have mine running through the transmission cooler lines on...
What's great about this whole story is, he will get nowhere here on Steel Soldiers now that we're on to him. I guess he never thought we might talk to each other ! Personally I will not go on "Craig's list" just because of nut jobs like that. I would rather just give away my old stuff then deal...
There is plenty of information out there concerning DOT 5 if you look. It is not the "be all, end all" of brake fluids by any means, but it is the best in an older "non" anti-lock brake vehicle. DOT 5 will foam if cycled quickly like in a anti-lock brake system. Also most brake seals are not...
I'm on a "first" name basis with the Parker guys near me. One guy there thought I was building some sort of rocket ship with all the parts I was buying ! So I brought my truck down there to show them what I did with all the hoses and fittings I had bought. I still believe the one guy thinks I'm...
There is no "good" cheap diesels out there. All diesels that are halfway decent cost over $5000.00 and up. For the gas units, anyone with a Honda, or Briggs&Stratten Vanguard, engine are usually pretty decent. Stay far away from any of the "off" brand name engines. They all are made in China and...
To bad it only took them 50 years to actually put it into the military arsenal. Now if only they can finish the "one man jetpack" or "flying platform" ! If they had finished them in the 60's we all could be flying around in our own military surplus jet-packs !!!!
