Commercial license required for the MTVR?

What has worked out fine for me in TX for over 10 years and multiple LEO stops: I have Class A CDL with medical and drug screen, truck has USDOT and TXDMV registration with Former Military Plates (which is a form of antique registration). This is on a 915 which is same thing weight wise.

    M135 Brake system question

The GMCs are 69 years old now. You must replace or overhaul each component of the brake system. It is a lot of work, but not too challenging. The hard part is finding usable parts. Don’t use cylinders with pitting.

    M1161 Transmission info?

I disagree. Knowing the USMC and your report of how your trans was only partially installed, sounds like the maintenance shop cannibalized the new transmission out of your truck and put the dead one back.

    M37 vapor lock?

Yup sounds like classic M37 vapor lock. Heat from the exhaust manifold cooks the nearby fuel line.

    Hello gents (and ladies)-

Welcome back. I will never forget the night you told us about the Deepwater Horizon disaster as it unfolded. 1009s have gotten hard to find unmolested and not rusted bad.

    M1161 Transmission info?

You are correct that the General Motors 4L70E transmission is in limp mode due to the brain (TCU) being unpowered, missing, burned up, harness unplugged, ???? Start digging into it.

M1008 disc brake conversion...no park brake

Maybe install a Mico brake lock and find a lenient inspection station?

    Buying advice

Sounds like you are plenty qualified to wrench on these. My FMTVs live in a mini warehouse, yes it runs into some coin, but nearly no neighborhoods will tolerate you keeping this kind of truck at your house. If you spend some time on this forum, you will discover the problem areas that you...

    Buying advice

To perform a full set of preventative and predictive maintenance on one of these 20+ year old trucks is weeks of work. Shop labor rates are rarely under $100/hr. I would suggest that if you are not a fairly competent mechanic/electric tech, the FMTVs are not a good choice.

Need info on correct paint (GPW/GPA)

But we do know the answer here too, Willys engines were OD green and Ford engines were gray.

Was there ever a 2nd gen dodge cucv?

The first 1976/1977 M880s were not well regarded by the troops and had plenty of reliability issues.

    Growler rim/wheel O-ring

McMaster Carr lists 15” O Rings. You have to measure the width also. Guessing this is for the wheel?

    Battery cables

Doesn’t it go straight to the starter motor? You can use welding cable as a substitute, it is very similar.

    Removing Cab

Berend if you don’t have a use for the antenna mount on the cab, I have been searching for that for years now. Just the part that slides up and out. It’s missing on my 1081.

Securing your MTVR? anyone installing locks? ignition keys?

The door latch looks like there is a blank for a key lock. I would guess the latch is a civilian item that Oshkosh sourced from a supplier to the automotive market. Odds are the latch is available with a key.

Uncle didn’t bite on that one.

Agree, that is the smaller grease zerk and it is not 1/8 npt like I said.

    Thread taper-lubricating nipple M101A1 from 1953

I think you are talking about grease zerk fittings and those should be 1/8 NPT.
