    M35 IR driving light

That's to bad about the "Lama" . We just had a pack of Coyotes in the front yard yesterday morning yipping and carrying on. Almost got the rifle out, but I've never been able to get one yet that way. Their to "Wiley" those Coyotes !

What did you do to your deuce this week?

The LMTV will fit our deuce ? If that is true then I wonder how much weight savings you could get going that route ?

OK, it is obvious you do not understand manual transmissions. The synchro cone does not drive the gear like you suggested. The cone, if you will only speeds up or slows down the gear. The actual shifting is from the collar of the synchro which actually engages the gear. Metal on metal ! Next...

Demand for power in the field

I like how you mention the Navy staying on their ships due to the fact it is hard to make a portable nuclear reactor ! That gave me a good laugh !

The front bumper is a good place. The dual connectors are for Hi and Low beams.

    Transfer Case removal/replacing

Oh I totally agree !!!!! Of course my wife thinks it is just a waste of time and money. After all, according to her I have only about ten more good years before I am unable to do anything anymore. She doesn't' realize that those last ten years I will be doing what I want to do ! Not working on...

Not knowing your back ground, I'm just assuming you never worked in a maintenance shop before. So to your first point. The gear is still engaging at the splines with the "help" of the synchro. So it still needs wear protection. Yes, there are now new automatics that don't use planetary gears. So...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Sounds like you watched the movie "Doc Hollywood" . Yeah, we can fix it !

I can only surmise that you don't like me much . The feeling is mutual I'm sure.

Demand for power in the field

You should have tried it in the Marines. We didn't even have a field mess. K-rats and C-rats. Oh-Ra !!! I think they thought if they gave us any "luxuries" we would become "weak". Going for weeks without even a "sponge" bath is not what I call fun. When you start to gag when you smell yourself...

    Exhaust Brake on an M35A2

OK, maybe I should have led with the last sentence. I thought it made perfect sense when I wrote it. I do get your joke. It was funny ! :-)

    Transfer Case removal/replacing

I agree with the proper equipment it is just as easy to remove it from the bottom. Of course I have a 1,000 Ibs transmission floor jack to play with.

Another thing you must consider is the make up of ATF and gear oil. Gear oil has "sulfur" anti-wear compounds which help in shifting. Now Automatic transmissions do not shift gears. They use "planetary gear sets" which are always in mesh. As do the newer transfer-cases. Also the newer...

    Bolt-on frame boxing

Why does Ford and Chrysler only recommend that the NP205 use gear oil ? Why is it that GM is the only one who used ATF ? I said it before, the military wanted a simple system for their trucks. No problems with gear oil contaminating the transmission. There was a Bulletin on that I read a few...

    Bolt-on frame boxing

GM was the only one to have "shift on the fly" NP205 transfer-cases. It was a total flop. They broke so fast and so often they forced to go back to the original NP205 design. They used ATF to help with the shifting.

When the industry recommends 80/90W gear oil I would use that.

    Bolt-on frame boxing

We have hashed this out before. NP205 transfer-cases should have gear oil in them. ATF is not thick enough to lubricate them when they get hot. You wouldn't put ATF in your differential or manual transmission would you ? Same thing here. The gears need a high compression/shear oil. Just look up...
