No, they actually used a special rolled edged plate to push with. The press was a 100 ton unit capable of pressing 8 ft sections.
Very impressive ! They showed me what it would look like with a true 90 degree angle and it was a true 90 degree angle after they pressed it out !
OK guys, there is no way that 'O'-ring can cause any binding on the shaft or effect the control rod in any way !!!
That unit is hardened steel and ground to fit that shaft. It is a precision unit, but that little 'O'-ring is NOT going to distort it in anyway !!! What can happen, and most...
Remember though, your breathing in that oil mist from the wipers. I had a fellow mechanic who got lung damage due to the oil mist from draining the ping tanks on the buses. That is just from the air-compressor oil leaking into the air system. Of course that guy was a nut for breathing in that...
Totally agree with you Gerhard. When I made my winch extension I had a shop fabricate them for me. They are also "rolled" and not right angled like a lot of people think. It's a 1/2" roll if I remember correctly. Also they are "not" industry standard in any way !
When I had to do service calls on trucks with split rims I always aired them up with the ring facing the truck. Thankfully never lost one but if I had then at least I would still be here to tell about it !
Once driving on I-5 north bound I had a truck in front of me to my right I was in the...
That is exactly why I said you need to be very specific about Cummins engines. Having worked on the ISC, ISL, and ISM, and M11 engines in the past 25 years I've had to be very exact ordering parts. It's not like the days of the small block Chevy anymore.
But getting back to the original question...
What I have done in the past is bought the 'U'-bolts with 12 point nuts and drilled out the yokes. I cannot remember right now who I bought the bolts from, but they where special hardened bolts with nuts. If you use a drill press and drill from the back side of the yoke it works real well.
Sorry to hear that. The pumps back half must be almost completely torn-down to get to that "spyder" . At this point I don't know what else could be causing the hunting problem. My money was on a fuel problem at first. But you do have adequate fuel pressure and flow correct ? That really narrows...
If you add a "luber" to the air system it must be compatible with the 'O'-rings and seals in the system especially the "brake booster" or you will have problems. No truck or bus that uses air brakes or air-assist brakes has ever had a "luber" on the air-system for this very reason. I agree with...
If after checking all that "cattlerepairman" said to check and you don't get any improvement, then your problem could be in the pump itself. There is a "spyder" that has a set amount of limiting twist to it to prevent damage to the pump and to lessen the amount of "hunting" during sudden...
Don't loosen those screws !!!!! That 'O'-ring doesn't get rubbed by anything !!! Nothing ever "slides" against that 'O'-ring !!!! If that control shaft is tight then there is some crud in there, nothing more.
In picture one you see the shaft lever standing straight up and the flat (with...
OK first off you must be very specific when talking about Cummins engines . The ISC 8.3L engine came with roller cams. There is also the ISL 8.3L and the ISM 8.3L engine. All are different. On the same engines there where the "electronic" versions and "mechanical" versions. All had different...
I agree about the valve springs. These Cummins engines have roller cams not flat tappet cams like ours. With that heavy of springs it will eat the cam lobes extremely fast.
Yes, but you pay for them ! Most Americans want a reasonably priced vehicle and that means the engine is going to be a middle of the road design and manufacture also. Quality always costs !!!
