    Having trouble adjusting the alternator

That is a good safe standard to go by.

    Head Removal

When I was still an apprentice I had to do the valve adjustments on a ton of trucks as it is considered "scut" work in shops. There where times I came across a jam nut that was tightened so much I almost bent the rocker trying to get it loose ! Then years later at the transit agency you have to...

    CUCV Rockwell anti-tank Ads

It looks like it was a running truck as there is mud on the bottom of the door. They probably put the tow straps on incase they had a "misfire" of one of the Hellfires and needed to tow it to a safe place to defuse it. I know I wouldn't get in a truck with a armed Hellfire !

    Having trouble adjusting the alternator

Actually the correct charge rate on a 24 volt system is between 27.0 and 30 volts. 30 volts is usually only on special equipment as normally this much voltage will cook your batteries out of water really fast. I always set mine at 28 volts. Now the new "MAT" style batteries need it to be exactly...

Cooling System Sediment: Stop-leak or something else?

Another thing is the casting material. When these blocks where cast at the factory they used special sand and clay mixtures to form the coolant passages and other holes like oil passages. Then after casting they shake the blocks to remove the casting sand mixture. That is why there are holes on...

The biggest problem with welding this cast-iron is it has been exposed to transmission fluid and gear oil. Since cast-iron is porous it absorbs that oil and when you get it hot (like welding) the oil comes out. I worked as a welder for a decade at a Marine Supply house. A lot of our products...

You don't need any special nut. They jam just fine once they are tightened.

    Winch and Bumper Project

Well I spent a good amount of time making up these two brackets today. For the first cut I was able to use my bandsaw, but the second cut I had to use the cut-off wheel on my angle grinder. Now I need to tack weld it in place then remove it and really get down to business with some 7018 ...

I thought the H4 ends would be fine too. Then they melted ! Now I run the ceramic ends.

    Winch and Bumper Project

Well it's time to add that brace. I had some 3/8" 4X6 angle iron cut to 2.5" width for the push brackets mounted on the frame. I will be welding a 1/4" side plate to both sides of them to "box" them in for strength. I have some extra bumper plates mounted on the bottom of the lower bumper to...

    Unusual driveline vibration case

When I was much younger then I am now, I played with jacking up my trucks and installing bigger tires. After spending all that money on the lift kits then the "repairing of broken parts" due to the lift kit, I decided "stock" is far superior then any companies "super duper" lift kit. I still...

That adapter is "cast iron" not steel so you might have a hard time welding it up. If it is cracked I would just get a new one.

    Multifuel Deuce Injector Pump Lube

In the last ten years injection pump technology has reached a new high. The tolerances are tighter and the control is far superior to the older pumps. Since they cannot use the fuel as a lubricant anymore they are using better bearings and more engine oil to lube critical parts. More "Teflon"...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Your not joking there !!! In the mornings I can barely move. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes each day to get me up to speed and be able to move about. Now if I set and just watch TV in the morning I can barely reach the bathroom by myself ! Also the pain gets to be unbearable. Yes it hurts to...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

It's not the bearings, it's the adjustment. Tapered roller bearings need room to expand when hot. If they have "preload" on them they get to much pressure when they get hot. Thus causing more heat. Our busses run with up to 0.005" of clearance in them. I personally like to run 0.002" clearance...

You might have a little problem getting that adapter for the NP205 transfer-case. That is one real rare bird now since the 4X4 community has been buying up all the NP205 stuff and junk yards and scrappers know the value of them. I actually bought the last "round hole pattern" one here in...

Lt. Dan - The dream Deuce

I like it ! Looks like they added that nice little bracket and drilled out a hole on the transfer-case lever to lock it up with. Probably puts the transfer-case in neutral then. So if you didn't know what to look for you would never see it.

Well Stan I watched the show tonight, and all I can say is "way to go thinking out of the box like that ! " . Now about that crack on the transmission housing. It can be caused by a couple of things. One is your engine and transmission support mounts. They can get too loose and allow excessive...

    Unusual driveline vibration case

I forget to mention all that fluid on the floor pan is from that seal leaking. That bushing is toast I'm sure.
