This is another thing that needs attention. The fuel shut-off assembly. On everyone I took apart they all had crud and rust on the shafts. In picture two I'm removing the roll pin. Then you can see and clean the whole shaft and the 'O' ring that should be replaced.
I need to mention this little screw. It blocks off the pumps main oil pressure. If it comes loose or you forget to install it after a rebuild you will loose all oil pressure in the pump. I took mine all out to thoroughly clean the camshafts. Then I used Loctite and tightened them back on.
Again, if your in a hot zone who is going to waste their time trying to find a fast food restaurant or oil change place ? For one thing the type of fuel you would get from them would have to be refined to actually run it. If you tried to run it straight you would only make a few miles out of...
I took a look at the pictures you sent me. First off those battery cables need to be replaced. I can guarantee that there is corrosion at the connectors and brittle metal due to over heating. I would go with a larger cable size too. At the minimum I would use #2 cable. Also check the resistor...
This is what our bus batteries look like. They are in 12V and 24V circuits with a Vanner battery equalizer to maintain proper charging. There are 8 separate battery cables. Needless to say there is a wiring diagram on the battery door. A few years ago one of our mechanics was in a hurry and...
I know your tired and really frustrated with this truck, but just take a couple of days off and let your mind relax. I'm a mechanic or was before I retired and there where times I would just have to step back and let a problem go away for a time or even have another mechanic take over. After you...
Wish they would make it a sticky that the way our multi fuel motor is set up there is NEVER a need to crack injectors to remove the air. They will self clear.
That was a clever design they used on the injection pump. Sure beats trying to get prime in a combat situation !
That is true, but in the event the power goes out then all gas stations will technically be out of fuel. So no diesel or gas. You could try and siphon fuel from other vehicles but if the area is a "hot zone" you need to get out of Dodge fast. Having all the fuel you need to get somewhere safe is...
This is just a little bit of trivia but still interesting. As far as I know there where at least two manufactures of the deuce injection pump. The first is of course "American Bosch" . The second was "United Technologies" . United Technologies made the housings thicker then Bosch did as seen in...
First off I just want to say that this whole thread is not a step by step instruction for the assembly of the deuce injection pump. It is an aid to the TM manual. There are spots where the TM falls short in explanations and hopefully this thread will help. In pictures one and two I'm checking...
There was one last thing I forgot to mention about the LDS versus the LDT pumps. The first picture shows the different lengths of spring used for the timing advance on the pumps. The one on the left is from the LDS and the longer one is from the LDT pump. The shorter springs on the LDS would...
If you really want that much extra capacity then get a M105 trailer and mount the tank in the bed using bolts to the frame. Make sure the tank is DOT approved like Farms use to transport fuel to the field tractors. We have a Granger supply out here that sells these tanks. Kinda pricey for that...
The "Robo Impact tool" is not for removing lug nuts. That is why your suppose to have the gear reduction lug nut tool. Once the nuts are free you can use the tool. Now tightening the lug nuts it is OK to run them up with the Robo tool, then torque them to spec. For all other nuts and bolts the...
No question is silly if you don't know the answer to it. Of course after you get the answer then we will laugh and make fun of you ! Just kidding ! Remember the TM's are your friend !
Picture 1 shows the piston spring installed. Picture 2 shows the snap-ring and picture 3 shows the retainer and snap-ring installed.
This last picture shows the two pumps I'm assembling. Out of the seven pumps I disassembled, I only got enough good parts to make-up two good pumps. These are...
Pic 1 shows the main bearing retainer installed. Pic 2 shows the "timing hub" being installed. I used the gear nut to tighten the hub in place (55 ft Ibs) then installed the "cam shaft nut" and using my spanner wrench held it in place while tightening it. Then I installed the set screw (25 ft...
What fun is that ? That is half the fun of owning one of these trucks. Being able to rebuild what is broken and bringing it all back to life is what mechanics do. I might be retired now but I'm still a mechanic .
I installed the governor "spyder" today. In picture 1 you can see the assembly lube I used on the bushing in the main housing. Picture 2 shows the governor heating up. Picture 3 shows the cam shaft installed ready for the governor to be installed. Picture shows the governor installed. Even...
Totally agree with all here. There has been times when we drove trucks into the shop without any anti-freeze and almost no oil in them. Warning buzzers going off like crazy ! Your not going to be revving it so there really will be almost no heat for a few minutes.
