    Rebuilding the Injection pump

I finally got my special socket made (pic 1). Thank you "Peashooter" for the excellent job you did !!! In pictures 2 and 3 you see how the bearing retaining nut fits into the special socket. In picture 4 I have the bearing already installed on the "cam" shaft and pictures 5 and 6 show the...

    mep002a starting throttle position

Actually these MEPs get "flashed" every time their started. When they really need a good flashing (when they totally loose all magnetism) then you just keep holding the start switch over even after it starts. When the unit starts to make power you can release it.

    M35A3 Transmission type?

I remember sending you to that company last year. Good outfit.

    I imploded my winch.

Sorry for your frustration "rosco" , but sometimes conversations "evolve" . Actually this thread started as a "what" happened to my "70" year old designed winch on a "70" year old truck design. The only way to "improve" it would be to replace all the key components with modern steel ones which...

Meritor’s independent suspension proposal for FMTV A2

Having worked on similar units, I'm sure they use actual "bearings" or at the very least "bronze" bushings at all the articulating points. Very strong ! Also with the differential "up and away" like it is, it would be extremely hard to hurt it by ramming into a large rock or something when...

Hydroloc etc.. Whats usually the first thing that gets bent / broken

With most diesel engines that experience "Hydro-Lock" the rods are usually the first to go. If you stop and think about it, your trying to push a solid into a tiny space. The crank is very strong and with all that leverage it is forcing that rod and piston into a space already occupied. The...

    I imploded my winch.

Another thing to mention is that the factory winch is dependent on the transmission and PTO to function. Now PTO's are getting few and far between and you cannot even buy all the bearings to rebuild them anymore. So what happens when your PTO decides to head South ? Your stuck.

    I imploded my winch.

The Warn Severe Duty 18 series is far superior to the standard 4X4 winches out there. The electric winch needs far less mechanical devices to support them (Drivelines, PTO's, Shear Pins and such) . That is the reason the military went with them now instead of a mechanical winch. Yes all electric...

    I imploded my winch.

They both have good and bad points. The OEM winch can hold twice as much rope as the Warn 18 series and pull over 2,000 Ibs more. Now the electric can be operated with the engine off. No need to have two people "safely" run the winch. You can stand near by and watch what is happening, not stuck...

    M35A3 Transmission type?

Your direct clutch assembly is bad. Rev/4th gear is the tell. To bad I'm not closer. We could have that unit up and running in no time. I always loved rebuilding the Pre-electronic Allison's . They all had such great internal designs with easy valve adjustments.

    fuel injectors

Truck shops replace the injectors by mileage, while buses replace them by hours run. It all depends on how their used. Hard high-way mileage and they will go a long time. Short "stop and go" running will plug them up fast. It all depends on how you drive. Now having said all that I would take...

    M35A3 Transmission type?

The pump assembly on the right is for a "non-lockup" transmission (ie: 540 model) . The left one is for the lockup model 1545 . The longer "Stator" shaft supports the lockup clutch assembly.

    Rear locker engagement

Yes, Chevy has used this unit for years. But it has had major issues over the years. Remember Chevrolet has a notorious habit of putting products into service that have not been fully tested and developed. Did you know there are over 700 recall/repair notices for the TH700R4 (4L60E) transmission...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Exactly. The solenoid is mounted on the engine block just above the starter. Check for loose cables and such and burnt wiring under the connectors. If you pull back on the connector and the wire is discolored then it is more then likely burnt or corroded.

    Rear locker engagement

This was one of the most common units rebuilt out there (due to failure) . I cannot remember how many I did myself. This unit can last a long time if treated right though. That means no reving around corners and other things that will "shock" the differential. Eaton had one for years on large...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Yes it sucked, but now you have a great story to tell ! Just like the time my best friend and I wanted to see the new "Dirty Harry" movie at the Valley Drive-In. It was below freezing (about 15 F) and when it came time to go home the battery was dead ! We had to walk to a pay phone and call my...

    Help identify this genset

I was curious about an "Italian" engine generator too ! I thought since GM had owned 50% until 2007 was the reason they bought it, but your explanation makes more sense Guyfang.
