Since the transfer-case had contaminated oil from the transmission, I would replace that seal first off. Since this happened before you had the truck you don't know if the previous owner got water in the transmission. He could have got the water in the transmission and since the transfer-case...
So you actually used a temp probe to confirm the temperature ? I have several temperature probes for my "Fluke" meter. Goes a long way in helping diagnose a problem.
You know if there was a reasonably priced option of going to air-brakes on the deuce I would do it. Since the only way is to install 5 ton axles under it, that option is out. Just buy the 5 ton, or the LMTV .
Did you actually run the engine and look at the belts ? Mine checks out fine if you just do the finger test, but when it's running you can see the belt flopping.
Remember your trying to "recreate" the problem and the problem only happens when the engine is running.
The hose replacement schedule is not a mandatory rule of law but what the manufactures who make the hoses say to do. I know most everyone never replaces their hoses until they break or leak, but just like your suppose to change-out the brake fluid every 5 years your suppose to replace the...
You had "strawberry" colored fluid in the transfer-case ? That means you seals are bad between the transmission and transfer-case. Did you also drain the transmission fluid ? You mentioned water in the transfer-case. Did you go 4 wheeling in some water recently ? Water in an automatic...
I totally agree about the air-compressor belt ! Mine just started doing this yesterday and I found the belt was loose and "flopping" all around. I didn't tighten up the set bolt on the compressor enough when I replaced the belt the other day.
If your really concerned about the flex lines, then replace them with the stainless steel PTFE hoses. Peashooter has a great write-up on those hoses and brake lines. These hoses can handle over 2,000 psi and with the stainless steel braid can take a really good hit and still be OK. We actually...
I know you'll like the PTFE hoses over the stock rubber lines. They will also last the life of your truck if they don't get damaged. No need to replace them every 5 to 10 years like the rubber ones.
I agree. I have never seen this much rust in a silicone system. Something is seriously wrong there. I would start checking your lines and the master cylinder for water intrusion. Maybe someone accidently added DOT 3 brake fluid to your system at one time, and it never got fully purged out. Since...
It's been awhile now, but I know he bought the Holley Racing Kit. It came with all the different power buttons and feed hole sizes. Then it was just a matter of trying each one and see what would happen. It would still "stumble" when you tried to romp on it when it was cold, but beyond that it...
Any of the 3 bolt mount converters where for "light" duty only. The internals on all the 6 bolts units had brazed fins. This 6 bolt design was originally designed for the AT540 Allison . One of the tricks in the day was to use it for high torque trucks behind the TH400's . Then the factory...
My father worked on the "Alaskan Highway" along with the Army. He drove a supply truck that feed and brought supplies for the troops. I remember him telling stories about Alaska and driving in 50 below zero weather and the Moose on the roads and all that cool stuff ! So I have wanted for decades...
It's best to keep the primary filter at a 30 micron level. That way it will not clog up so fast. The secondary's then can be the 10 micron. Or you can use two different secondary's like I did. The first being 10 micron and the second being a 6 micron. If I can find a 2 micron filter that will...
OK you guys need to realize this truck is the "same" as any other Chevy truck. They came factory with 454's in them so of course they will fit right in. You just need the proper motor mounts for that engine.
The only modifications to them was just a few extra brackets on the bumpers and some...
