timgc78 , the rear axle can sometimes a bit of a pain to put back into the splines - but I don't remember ever damaging a seal. That seal doesn't ride on the axle so it should be safe to wiggle it in place.

Zipper at the top and I wouldn't seal it.
If you have a burning desire you could seal with some RTV, but generally the rubber will have degraded before there is a leak at the boot zipper.
While we are on the subject of a Crew Cab - this particular truck belongs to a member here as well. Hate to admit it - but I wasn't keeping names when I saved this pic...

Hello and Welcome to the Outfit!
I have to step up and tell you now that I am not the generator guy... I am slowly learning and getting smarter all the time with the tutelage of several members here. Best way for you to get started is to download the (free) Technical Manuals (TM's) here on...

Depends on how much effort you might want to put in to it. I have read here that several people have used WD40 wiped on will bring back some of the dull sheen. Might need to have a case of scotchbrite pads too because CARC is rough. Tends to gather strings out of the wiper rags.
Good way...

Suggest you do both. Torn boot will only get worse with time and if you have a "sulfur smell" then you can be pretty certain that the seals are leaking too. Fix the one with the problem, then while you are still good at it - fix the other one too.
Bummer.
Been there and done that.

Just need a donor cab - and then the hard part - finding somebody with the skills.
Gotta chop up the one you have on the back and the new one on the front, then "glue" them together with a welding device. Then move everything behind the cab you have now back about three feet. Then install...

@kendelrio ,
Thanks for taking the time to write that story. I'm proud to be associated with people like you and a lot of others in this outfit as well.
Same with shoe strings being tied to the brake peddle when sleeping in the cab of a bucket truck.
After lunch, all relaxed, nodding off and it makes your "mark" high enough to easily do the dastardly deed.

And as I have mentioned in several discussions about getting "slick willy titles" or insurance or blind LLC's -- Just wait until the lawyers get involved if you are ever in an accident.

Not sure what kind of shape the "slides" are above the window are in, but there is a member here that has glass frames. I think he also has the rubber molding to seal the frame to the cab. Guessing that you could weld a window that would open, but you could weld a sheet-metal frame in place...

Yeah, sometimes it is hard to admit that she's right.
She might have said "I told you so" if something had happened too.
Safety is no laughing matter but it made me chuckle to see your post.
