MEP 831a fuel pump working, not going through injector pump.

Doug, When measuring the AC voltage at A5 you need to connect the meter probes as follows... First A & B and measure AC voltage Then A & C and measure AC voltage Then B & C and measure AC voltage Let us know what voltage you have at these 3 points. Do you have good batteries installed in your...

MEP 831a fuel pump working, not going through injector pump.

If K12's LED is off... Here are a sequence of test steps to narrow down where the problem is. 1) Battle Short OFF 2) Connect your DC voltmeters negative lead to chassis ground. 3) Set you meter so it can read DC volts. 4) Start the generator 5) Measure the DC voltage the following points in...

MEP 831a fuel pump working, not going through injector pump.

First thing to look at is the far left relay inside the panel. This is K12 the fault relay. If the tiny LED inside it is lit then there is a fault and the contactor will not close. Is K12's LED on? Does the Voltmeter show 120 or 240 volts? Let us know your findings. Can walk you thru how to...

MEP 831a fuel pump working, not going through injector pump.

OK, having 136 VAC at the A,B,C terminals indicates the engine is running at way to low an RPM. You need to re-adjust so that the voltage there is 178 +/- 2 VAC. Adjusting the RPM so you have 178 +/- 2 VAC there sets the correct no-load RPM. This is necessary for the inverter to operate and to...

MEP 831a fuel pump working, not going through injector pump.

What's the AC voltage across terminals A & B and across B &C on the governor controller? Any voltage showing on the sets voltmeter? Any voltage at the convenience outlet? Which contact on J17 was burnt?

    MEP-831 inverter troubleshooting

Rotors on tapered shafts require a puller to get them off. I had to fab up a puller to pop the PMA rotor off my 831 crankshaft. Basically made it from a heavy piece of plate steel with 3 holes in it. The holes in the plate are not threaded. Large center bolt is a 3/8 carriage bolt with a nut...

    MEP-831 inverter troubleshooting

I designed a special Governor Controller that maintains 60 Hz, restores the %Load function of the load meter for both legs and restores the overload function to open the contactor if either leg is overloaded. Let me know if you get the new gen head and are interested in the new controller.

    MEP-831 inverter troubleshooting

Looks like that one would work and fit. It's almost the same size as the Northern Tool gen head I have in one of my 831's.

    MEP-831 inverter troubleshooting

I've searched lately and haven't been able to find a suitable gen head with the J609B.

    MEP-831 inverter troubleshooting

If the inverter is not outputting power the starter lockout will not function. The inverter output from N and L1 is what powers the coil in K15 the starter lockout relay. Without power from the inverter the starter lockout relay will not function. Looks like you did some good troubleshooting...

    Legible TM 9-6115-639-13&P schematics

The one Guy posted above has easy to read schematics. That version is the 11/1/2000. I use a 8/15/2005 version that also has good schematics. I don't know offhand if there are any differences in the schematics between those two. The 2010 version has blurry schematics. Kurt

Help me identify a missing component in Mep 831a

All the wires in the generator labeled. It's stenciled on the insulation every so often. You may need to cut a wire tie or two to be able to find it.

MEP 803a Starter wont crank using S1.

Yes, all even numbered terminals on S1 should all be electrically tied together. That connection is indicated by the vertical thick black line running thru 2,4,6 & 8 in the TM's switch schematic in your post.

MEP 803a Starter wont crank using S1.

Looks like you do not have power to all the S1 input terminals since you indicated the fuel pump runs but no voltage at S1-7 when in the start position. S1 should have ~24 volts DC on terminals 2,4,6 & 8 with the Dead Crank in "Normal" and the Emergency Off switch pulled out. You need to...

    802 wiring question

No. That part is the panel mount side of the connector pair P6/J6. It does not come apart. J6 is bolted to the pan of the cube. The body of J6 simply holds the contacts for P6 to connect to and has the threads for the P6 collar to screw onto. The part sticking up from J6 is just a strain...
