A Samlex Inverter A modified sine inverter output is extreme THD - LOL Yes - Modified Sine Wave inverters can kill sensitive electronics such as chargers. They also cause a lot of excessive heating in motor windings. The output of a typical modified sine wave inverter below. Just nasty...

    Mep-831a

THD is Total Harmonic Distortion. An ideal AC voltage is a pure sine wave with absolutely no distortion to the "signal". Something close to this.. Usually THD on a cheap inverter or cheap generators output usually appears as noise and sometimes distortion of the sine wave. This example shows...

I looked at these a couple of weeks ago but ruled them out due to their poor THD specification. The Manual for the 24V 2200 specs the THD at: "an average THD of 15% (min 5%, max 25%) depending of load connected and the battery voltage" If your loads aren't fussy about THD then it may be OK for...

    Two MEP-831a generators in parallel?

Guy, Thx for checking with CECOM on that.

Remove the wires to terminals 7 & 8 of the Voltage Regulator and put tape on each of the lugs so they can't touch anything or each other. This will prevent the regulator from being powered by the generator heads quad winding. * WARNING - The generator will still output ~120/240 volts when you...

    Two MEP-831a generators in parallel?

I suspect it's possible to hook two 831's in parallel. To my understanding the 831's inverter is actually two inverters working in tandem. When in 120 mode the two inverters inside are synchronized so they can work in parallel. In 240 mode they operate 180 degrees out of phase and connect in...

J14 that Colt needs is a Molex ‎0003092022. $0.23 The pins are Molex ‎0002092103‎. $0.16 each The fan cord is a Guardtec and looks like PN HP50-24 will work. It has 24" leads to work with. $0.85 These are all avalailble thru DigiKey.

    MEP 831A Fix-up Thread

The airflow direction is OUT of the cabinet. As for the wiring it's on the picture you posted. But to clarify it's... 101H18 goes to P14-1. J14-1 goes to the thermostat S21 pin 1. Thermostat S21 pin 2 goes to the fan pin 1. (This is the hot leg being fed by L1 from the inverter.) 102N18 goes...

    Mep-831a

The battery charger in the 831 can only output a few amps so it's not going to charge an external battery very fast. The spec sheet for the charger doesn't clearly specify it's output capability but it eludes to it being capable of something between 3 and 7 amps. Of course the 831 will use some...

    Two MEP-831a generators in parallel?

I don't believe it's possible. Unlike all the other MEP's the 831 in inverter based. Other MEP's can be synchronized by adjusting the engine RPM to get their AC output waveforms synchronized. With the 831's you have no control over the AC output waveform timing.

Looks like CR1 is bad. The part number for CR1 is 1N5406. It's a 3 amp 600 volt general purpose diode. Widely available for ~$0.50 each.

OK, now we're narrowing down why you only get 5 volts at S1 2,4,6,8 & 3 when S1 is in Prime/Run. Since you always have 24 volts at both ends of CR1 then there is an issue with getting the 24 volts from CR1 to S1. Since you have 24 volts at S1 2,4,6,8 with S1 in the OFF and only 5 volts in the...

?? CR1 is a diode. It has no moving parts. I assume your may have meant K2? Please report back on the measurements suggested in post 13.

It's possible CR1 is bad. Here is how to test for it. 1) Connect your meters negative lead to ground. There is a ground stud on the back wall of the cube to the lower right of the Voltage regulator. 2) Connect your meters positive to the right end of CR1. Check for ~24 volts DC there. CR1...

Remember don't start it until you at least have the fuse mod installed. Does it turn over using the Dead Crank switch? Do you have ~+24 at S1 terminals 2,4,6&8 when S1 is in the PRIME/RUN position? Do you get ~+24 at S1 terminal 3 when S1 is in the PRIME/RUN position?

It certainly won't have the MOV mod. That's a mod that I came up with a few years ago. PM me your mailing address and I'll mail you a MOV to install. No charge. Kurt

    MEP 831A Fix-up Thread

Colt, I took some mechanical measurement's today on one of my 831's for you to compare your actuator and mechanical governor to. Measurements are shown below as measurement "A" and "B". "A" is the gap between the magnet and the target on the actuator arm as measured at the top of the two...
