Your starter bushings could be bad, but more then likely it's the starter windings and magnets loosing their magnetism. Once the starter builds up enough charge on the magnets it really starts to kick in. I have had new starters that sat for years go bad this way. If you have already checked...
I'm not sure but hasn't the military gone to only using "Inverter alternator" generating units ? That means all the older style generators will soon be on the market. My old buddy was telling me this just a while back. Since the military depends on computers so much they wanted better generators...
We'll cut you some slack since your from a warm climate area and I'm sure don't have the rust issues others up North must deal with. Up here in the rain forests of Washington it is a very common thing to have happen.
Actually I've seen the M37 swivel pintle hook and it's not that big. About a 5 ton rating if I remember right. The only problem with any swivel pintle is the length, since there is the spring to deal with.
That's funny ! When I was working at this transmission shop we had a mechanic who thought it was OK to "borrow" anyones tools if he didn't have one. He never stole any tools but he would return them dirty !
One day he tried to "borrow" this old crusty mechanics wrench, and just as he was putting...
Has your truck ever been in a front impact accident ? Or have you ever been off-road and have the truck get twisted really bad ? If yes to either question I would have your frame checked for straightness. A good truck alignment shop can straighten a truck frame very easily. You would be...
I still think silicone is the way to go. It just needs to be made from a heavier grade then the ones on the market now. Though a Kevlar material with a silicone layer might just be the ticket. Keep the silicone layer on the inside and the stronger Kevlar material on the outside.
I don't care how long you've worked as a mechanic, but sooner or later you will need help remembering how something went back together. In todays world with so many different vehicles and systems it is overwhelming at times the amount of information you must remember. At work there are over 27...
I tried to watch the show last night but according to our scheduler it will not air until 4-7-2016. I also understand your situation about the road. I live in a area that is built up pretty heavily except where I live due to the fact the road dead-ends just past my land. Many neighbors have...
I was involved in a terrible accident in Montana when the trailer I was towing down a long grade lost traction and swung around and threw my truck over. We rolled over three times that I can remember. The guys in another truck behind us stopped to help and said, his words now " that was so...
It's nice to know that I'm not the only one to use the parts manual during a rebuild ! For decades I always used the parts manual to view how the different parts went back together. My father taught that to me when I was just a wee laddie !
The guys in the parts department always that it was...
There all "ONAN" engines. They will fit the MEP-002A and MEP-003A engines. The problem with having all those cranks is no one rebuilds their ONAN engines as it is cheaper to just buy another used generator ! Now the MEP-002A and MEP-003A generators are being phased out by the release of the...
Hey Stan, what's the deal about a road going through town ? I see a lot of people don't want it. What's your opinion. I think it would be a great benefit to the whole community especially in winter. Supplies would be much easier to bring in, and we could drive up there with our military trucks...
That is not an uncommon problem. The over-road trucks and busses get this problem all the time. Water from your shoe gets on the pedal and eventually causes corrosion on the pin and anchor. I have replaced over 20 pedal mechanisms on our busses. In fact they rebuild them in the downtown repair...
It's all about the volume of air allowed into the combustion chamber. Even though the valves are the same size, being open longer allows more air into the chamber. Like Mark was saying it is kinda like using a larger lobe cam without any cons for the lifters. The higher the lobe lift the more...
Though I have never physically meet him I know Gimp is a stand-up guy. He's a good honorable man. Something you cant' say about most people today. He is a bit forgetful though ! but that happens when your running around helping others all day long !
