The part that is leaking is your hydraulic power pack which raises the cab. You will need to overhaul it. Parts have to be ordered. There is a thread here on how to do it.
No. You must check the wheel hub oil level front and rear. If someone had drained the hubs, they would not automatically get filled by the center differential oil.
On the rear axle, there is no seal of any type that prevents gear oil from the center differential from running down the axle tube and over filling the wheel hubs when the truck is on a side slope. And there is no troublesome outer axle seal (like on old gen deuces/5 tons) to keep the oil out of...
Hear me now, believe me later: It is ALL ABOUT the body. Bent up panels are cannot be straightened. Have to be unriveted and replaced. 1/4" thick flakey CARC paint is IMPOSSIBLE to remove and takes DAYS to sand down. Mechanical issues and missing parts are simple to deal with.
More to the story. The DUKW is NOT a '45, it is a RTDI reproduction. From the RTDI website:
Ride The Ducks of Seattle is an independently owned and operated licensee. It purchased the vehicle involved in the accident from RTDI in January 2005. The terms of our agreement do not allow us to...
NTSB is saying some kind or recommended repair was not done on this DUKW. Apparently it is a '45 GMC:
The NTSB had few details Sunday about the warning Ride the Ducks International issued. It wasn't clear what prompted the warning or how the potential failure was discovered, or whether it...
It's a few miles west of the 82/86 interchange. Has a sign. Don't forget your registration and insurance, allow an hour for your security background check, and leave weapons at home. I'll be there Wed for my load of tires.
Oh yes. This problem is caused by using the incorrect shims in the wheel end spider gear setup. See this thread for links to the correct method to set up (youtube). The sound is caused by the outer bevel gear flopping around...
Call David Pizzoferrato of Weebee Webbing (ODCloth.com). He properly restored one of these which is proudly displayed at the Ft Sam Houston Medical Museum in San Antonio, TX.
There could be enough room for a 2'x2'x14" deep box mounted up high above the air cleaner and hydraulic power unit. But you would have to remove it when (not if) your hpu needs service.
Here are some pics of mine. The tire goes as far as the hydraulic power unit, then the air cleaner and coolant expansion tank take up the rest. There is no room for motorcycles etc.
Pay real close attention when you are hoisting up. I have pulled the A-frame over onto the hood three times and my buddy did it twice. When the hook reaches the block, it will pull the whole mess over with lightening quickness.
Good to hear. It amazes me that the much-disliked GM/GEP 6.2/6.5 may very well end up being the longest production run of any engine family ever built. 1982-2025+???
