I think in the stickies (old threads for sure) there are pictures of where the diode is located and what it looks like.
I know it's wrapped up in tape and you will have to cut the tape to get to it.
Once you find it, simply cut it out, tape off the ends (not back together) and your done.

Yes
getting it on and off trailer.
Not sure about the 8Ds
Others will chime in about those.
I do agree you will need four battery's in Alaska
I run Hawker 6AGM in all my MVs.
Good you kept the old ones.
Hard to find now.
I also bought new ones. Had originals rebuilt and installed them back on truck.
Now the new ones are the spares.
Its either 24v or 12v.......not both.
The starter shop will/should have them in stock.
It might not be GM, but should be decent quality.
Have not used NAPA ones.
Truckers, etc don't like their equipment down any more than you do.
Whatever you choose.
Highly recommend replacing the original 60A alternator asap.
I had read about them frying, but since mine was working fine, why bother....!!
Mine literally fryed and smoked about two weeks ago, taking with it a new Power Control Box and my ABS module.
Also possibly my...
Shippings fine, just pricey.
Find a shop close to you. I prefer face to face if I can.
That way you can build a relationship with them.
At some point you will need your alternators rebuilt and you can use the same shop.
Assuming your happy with the shops work.
The solenoid is usually...
I also was 11B at Benning.
Then Drill Instructor (E6) at Sand Hill.
Never around trucks or vehicles much at all besides POV. Rode in a bunch but that doesn't count.
After I graduated flight school, I again was not around the trucks, etc much at all.
Helos everyday yes, but only...
He's right.
Watch Voltmeter also.
I watch mine every time and is second nature.
Like watching TOT/EGT on engine startup (helo)
Totally spaced mentioning it before.
You can replace just the solenoid.
Just make sure it's 24v.
Should be a shop in your area that you can drop off for rebuild, instead of shipping it.
Yellowpages or online search will tell.
Amazon also sells factory GM starter bolts for a really good price.
As mentioned, do not reuse them.
I also would not put a drill bit anywhere near the threads.
Thats just asking for trouble.
Wouldn't take much to jack up the threads.
You will be using a tool, not designed or intended for the 6.2L, for a problem that doesn't exist.
Ok
Your truck
Good Luck
Post pics when you have to...
I personally would not.
A properly maintained stock system works great as is.
A lot have had success with it.
But I like the stock setup.
No need to fix what's not broken.
That way the TMs still apply and you will get more help here on SS.
Mine starts right up even when it's 3 degrees out...
A quality DMM (Digital Multimeter) is a must have item for any CUCV/MV owner.
Unlock hubs as already mentioned.
The GP card should be to the right of the accelerator pedal somewhere up and behind dash.
The GP card holder is about the size of a pack of cigarettes.
A good cleaning of the...
Hillbilly is wayyy overpriced on that starter.
A little online searching will find the exact starter for almost half.
Amazon also carries the factory GM starter bracket.
CUCV 24v starters too.
I would recommend having your starter rebuilt.
Sounds like you might only need the solenoid...
