Good info and I do the same
I run E rated Michelin's on all my trucks.
Last flat I had wasn't from metal anything.
Am in the process of clearing a section of land on my ranch. A piece of wood went right through the lower edge of the sidewall, right at the tread edge.
Plug kit fixed it right...
Going to a higher amp alternator has made my battery's healthier.
Charges them faster and with less heat.
Another SS member mentioned the same earlier in the thread and it's true.
Truck sat for almost two days and when I turned the battery switch on, the voltmeter was in the green. Engine...
How many flats did you get?
I always worry about places like that.
Small pieces of metal everywhere and tires usually don't mix well.
Our local place is horrible with flat makers everywhere
5 years in the battery world is a long time.
I know some can and do last longer (like yours), but I would still recommend replacement.
The older the battery, the greater the chance it will leave you stranded. Usually at the worst possible time.
Good battery's, with a full charge, makes...
I watched a GovPlanet Europe auction a while back.
Prices were a LOT cheaper than in the US.
Everything from trucks to trailers.
Nice stuff also.
Kinda spread out, but Germany had a lot, if not the most equipment.
Installed new Delco-Remy 33si 100A alternator a few days ago.
(Thank you 74M35A2)
New Gates Green Belt
Rebuilt the Power Control Box (thanks to old SS threads for the how to/part#s).
Installed new ABS module (another great SS member).
Not the easiest thing to get to.
Original alternator...
The National Guard Maintenance Facility that I swing by to say hello from time to time HATES the new trucks.
Almost all have electrical issues.
The CW3 was showing me a truck, FMTV, that had to have its entire wiring harness replaced.
To make matters worse, he said it's all one piece!
Also...
Stay away from cheap parts.
Most of the time they cause more issues than not.
Get ACDelco 60g glow plugs.
They are self-limiting and recommended for the CUCVs.
The temp sensor on passenger side low is for the cold advance.
The GP temp sensor on drivers side high is to tell the glow plugs...
Did they load test them or just slap a voltmeter on it?
A battery will read fine, but fail a load test.
Since yours are 5 years old anyway I would replace them.
Yes. That's it.
Lots of caps for the TH400 in eBay also.
They are not designed for running down the road.
Shop use only so you don't make a mess with fluid running out while working on it.
With that said, the lipped plugs on eBay look like they would work with the seal holding them in.
Not...
I would drop the pan and see if any pieces are in the bottom.
Filter flow issue?
What brand filter did you use?
Fram filters have been known to come apart internally and suck the filter debris inside the oil/fuel passages.
Fuel filters especially.
Thats why I only use Wix Filters.
Agree...
Administrators~ Time for a Generator only forum!?
Threads for Generators totally dominate this forum.
It makes it very difficult to sort through to find other info that isn't GenSet related.
Can the Generators have their own forum?
Looks like they certainly need it.
Just a thought...
If you locked up the brakes and tires slid, I would suspect flat spots.
Doesn't take much to grind off enough to cause some vibrations
This and the other things already mentioned.
