Piss on them if they get offended. You can't save every one as stock, I think it would be a shame to. Seems uncle sam did too, since he has a bunch of model numbers.
No, it will not work. They use an inch and an eighth pin on the tow bar end which would put slop in the bar's connection AND the feet are cast too big to fit in the medium bar. You would have to mill the feet down in order to get them to fit.
YOur better off just getting the correct feet...

The fuel pickup does not go all the way to the bottom of the tank. It keeps sludge from getting into your fuel system.

I'd say take the hyd head off and inspect it, it sounds suspect. The rad works like that, hot comes out of the motor at the top and cool comes in the motor at the bottom.
If you follow this link, it will have a group of 6 pictures at the bottom of the first post. Remove the part in the first pic, and see if the fuel shut off rod moves freely. If not, that is your problem...
