I stand corrected, one of the prototypes I saw was the Chrysler, not a GM try at it.
The Teledyne was the other one I saw in person.
It's been a while...
Retrofitted the original 6-cyl Deutz air-cooled Diesel, like I saw at YPG back in '82?
It was so pretty under the hood went like a raped ape, and took the contract away from Teledyne and GM.

Another thing about the M39-series and M809-series trucks is the transfer is fully synchronized, and it can (with sufficient practice) be used to split a shift on a hill so as not to loose too much speed. I've seen another Mack engined rig with the hi-lo lever arranged akin to a 5&3 shift...
From the starter post relay 4th post to the + feed side of your coil. It will only go hot when in the start mode, no additional devices needed.
A 6-Volt starter is the ticket, you may have a 12-Volt one. Won't hurt things a bit.

As far as your license is concerned, a lot depends on your state.
In AZ, we have an exemption from commercial restrictions: A 25-year or older Historic Vehicle plate.
I carry a copy of the Arizona Revised Statute outlining type of licensing, and have had to have a cop read it, usually...
Ummm...Most all the G744 drop-ins (the top loader Timkin/Rockwell units) have the same 6.44:1 ratio, as they're interchangeable between locations. Missile trucks used a gearset in the 10:1 range.
The Sprag unit runs free if everything is turning the SAME speed. They lock if the rears slip...
Too bad you're way East in MO.
I have a 5-ton tractor, Mack END673 engine (the best, BTW). It's a project rig, and needs to be put together.
For my asking price of $1,500 here in AZ, it's not a bad deal.
Also FS is an 900-series hydraulic winch for an additional $500.
If interested...
I've found those particular switches are junk, with just the same result in regular uses.
First off, any of them with a 'key' just never have the low contact resistance necessary to handle a Diesel starter current.
Ditch the 'security' idea and get one of these: Cole-Hersee battery disconnect...
I have a 5-ton tractor that you could have all the 5th wheel and ramps for coming to get it.
There couldn't be a whole lot of difference between them, as both trucks have the same frame width.
I'm just outside of Phoenix.
