Thanks CSM Davis. If you happen across that Army Boom Test manual, I would love to have a copy. I didn't crawl around on the deck. It is still somewhat nasty. Fixing and cleaning as I go... I will get down there and look for the valves.
I won't be shock testing the boom! Awful lot of...
Thanks. Guess I will pass on disconnecting that buzzer - at least until I get more comfortable with the truck. The engine eventually drowns out the noise when throttled up to about 1100rpm to operate the hydraulics.
Speaking of which - that idle up isn't automatic. Throttle on the dash...
Thanks Wes. I agree 100%. Shipper Braces (holders) are definitely just for transport.
The TM does specifically say that "heavy lifting" should be accomplished using the winch and not lifting with the boom hydraulics. It also specifies the use of a pair of Boom Jacks as well.
Thanks for...
M936, Step 1 in setting up the wrecker is to engage the parking brake lever. As soon as I pull up the lever the buzzer sounds. It doesn't stop until the lever is pushed back down. (same sound as low air warning) The left warning lamp (red) just above the steering column stays on as well...
Thanks Wes. I was going for obvious I guess. Thought since it was mounted to the hydraulic tank that maybe SOP was to carry an extra 5 gallons of hydraulic oil.
939 and 936 - Is the spare tire holder arm different on those two vehicles? I can't see where or how it would be used on my 936.
Safety First - So I don't kill myself or somebody else...
I am new to the M936, but reading the TM seems like the right thing to do. TM 9-2320-272-10 (Pages 2-136 to 2-140) show and explain the use of Shipper Braces that provide boom stability on the road. The TM also explains those other two...
The Jerry Can Holder in the picture above... Is that used to carry extra hydraulic fluid?
And, can anybody identify this thing (below)? It was the "metal on metal" sound I heard. Tossed it out on the ground for now. Almost looks like a part of a spare tire carrier or mount of some sort...
So, today I spent some time operating the PTO for the rear winch and boom on my M936. Everything I see says she is a rotator and that 360 degree rotation should be possible (TM 9-2320-272-10, Page 2-134, 2-24-d). Being that this was my first time around this particular machine - everything...
Will an LED bulb in that fixture help the problem - or should I just start looking for something to really light up the night? Not sure that I will be using it at night, but they should function if they stay on the truck. More the idea of fixing things that "aughta work".
Since I am...
If all three should come on with one switch (on the lamp housing) could it be that "nothing happened" be because the circuit isn't complete with the boom light missing?
Those two wires hanging in thin air and no socket leaves an open loop? Maybe?
Looking through the TM 9-2320-272-10, Page 93 it mentions that a control switch -on- the floodlights turns them off and on. Nothing happened when I tried that today. I have two white work lights (floodlights) on My 936. Should have been a third one but the lamp under the boom is missing...
I picked up a blue 55 gallon plastic barrel (drum) today. About a quarter inch thick. It is a one piece affair, so I guess while it is raining on Saturday - me and a saws-all will have an appointment with the top of the drum.
Been reading up on how to make this work. I predict a little...
It has a home-made (flat steel plate and two big springs) on the boom winch. No green paint. Almost makes me think that part was a civilian fix - but maybe not. Hard to see, but #6 above shows a little of what I am talking about.
I couldn't agree with you more! This is definitely a sickness like no other. I have been having a lot of fun with it. Not really accomplished anything outstanding but slowly but surely I am fixing little things and hunting down non-standard wires that go to nowhere. The three of four main...
Perfect. L-642 in 10wt is in the cart and the L-673-10 cable lube too.
I went through about a quart and a half of ATF and Acetone today. Took it a while to eat through the gunk but I have a good solid handfull of rust cleaned out so far. The bottom of the tube and the outrigger itself are...
Made more forward progress today. I managed to get the Right Rear out of it's pocket and onto the ground. Seems pretty obvious that it hadn't been used in a lot of years. Lots of spray, lots of wiggling, lots more patience than I really have - but it is out! Only three more to go...
