    12 volt idea

Morning 162tcat I definitely agree that the converter box is the way to go. I just ordered my last few parts to start my install for my M936 last night. Can't wait to get that installed! These trucks are a lot more complex than they need to be IMO. I spent part of a previous life (in my...

    M936 Wrecker, Tires and Spare

Interesting. Wouldn't have thought redesigning the toolboxes would have been done between truck models. A couple of inches in both directions... In my opinion, designing a way to access them from the ground could have had some real value - but it almost seems like a waste to redesign like this.

    12 volt idea

Perfect! I have 6 coming. I saw your thread about rebuilding PCB boxes and figured I would ask about that one day soon. Thanks!

    12 volt idea

Thanks simp5782 ! I ordered the Blade Fuse Box and 100amp Circuit Breaker. Thanks for the pix. Got those on the way to me. I looked at the 24063 and it says continuous duty. Says 300amp though. Am I missing something...

    M936 Wrecker, Tires and Spare

Well do tell! Never thought I would see a bunch of guys with "winch envy". There is definite magic to free spool. It was just pure dumb luck that I got a truck with these mods. I remember standing in front of a Dodge Ambulance leaning into the cable - and it was the half inch stuff...

    12 volt idea

simp5782 Do you happen to have a pointer to the correct solenoids? They look a lot like Ford starter solenoids. And in your setup - did you route the 12v output to a distribution block inside the truck? I also noticed that nothing is connected to your center (ground) terminal. Is that...

    M936 Wrecker, Tires and Spare

My wrecker - at least in theory - is an A1. I have a few odd features like A2 fuel tanks, free spool winches front and back and so on. Maybe I have an "A1.5" or something crazy like that? Anyway, you mentioned toolbox dimensions. I don't know if mine are standard or not. I took some...

    M936 Wrecker, Tires and Spare

Great! So it sounds like I don't need to fabricate... Even better than I had hoped! Thank you sir.

    M936 Wrecker, Tires and Spare

I have a nice set of six 395/85 R20's under my wrecker. Nice big fat juicy tires! The spare is a (flat) 11.00/R20 that fits the spare tire holder nicely. The tool boxes open like they should. The rotator boom clears the spare... If I happened to be pulling my HEMAT trailer, I have a...

    Greasing a Deuce

Another thing that will make it easier to get grease into the spring shackle pins - especially if if has been a while since it was greased - is to block up the frame with some heavy timbers and lift the body just a little. Relieving the weight that it is supporting. Gives that grease...

Battery on off switch not powering everything up??

Nice looking truck! Welcome to the group.

M936 Rear Winch Operations - Safety Question

Very reasonable. I have one on the way. Maybe I can start a new thread when it arrives about installing it. Understand I need a cutoff switch or a relay of some sort to turn it off. Gathering it will need a real piece of battery cable to drive it too. Thanks for the lead!

M936 Rear Winch Operations - Safety Question

That could be a heck of an idea! I need to find a spot for a tank and some one way check valves. That way I don't have to remember to turn off the air. I have been chasing leaks for about a week now. Got all but a new one that has started near / under the drivers door. I like to walk...

M936 Rear Winch Operations - Safety Question

Ah... Okay. That explains the quick connect rather than a glad hand. Thank you. Saved me a lot of mumbling and grumbling when nothing was happening!

M936 Rear Winch Operations - Safety Question

I saw something on here about adding a couple of extra air tanks for the volume and the possibility of air tools. I like the idea of a 20v DeWalt though! I have already picked up a 50ft air hose in 3/4". I had planned to use a glad hand to connect it to the truck on the emergency side. I...

M936 Rear Winch Operations - Safety Question

Hi CharlesMann A linear actuator would be pretty slick too. I keep thinking that maybe I might be adding more complication to what is already a pretty complex truck. Installing a 2 foot piece of expanded metal is something mechanical and sometimes simple is better. That may be what I do...

M936 Rear Winch Operations - Safety Question

I was definitely impressed with the free spool. Pushed the botton and hauled the cable about 75 feet over into the woods. Threw a chain around the base of a fairly large tree and snugged it up. Hooked the cable to the chain, released the truck brakes and it pulled with zero effort. Didn't...

M936 Rear Winch Operations - Safety Question

Thanks for confirming what I thought. Same power, just slower.

M936 Rear Winch Operations - Safety Question

Okay, so goofy question... If I step it down using a 10gpm valve - how does that affect the rated pulling capacity? Still the same as it was - but dog slow doing it?
