    Are these tires any good

Look for serious sidewall checks, sidewall cracks from sitting flat, tread punctures from nails or spikes that may be concealed due to not being inflated. I would not bother buying tires that were less than 50% tread.

    Registration Question

VIN can be either of two numbers depending on your state: The engine serial number "302XXXXXXXX" or the frame and data plate vehicle serial number "XXXXX". Frame number is stamped on the LH side near the front knee shock. I think most states no longer use the engine serial number as the VIN.

    Howdy from College Station, Texas

Welcome to the site. There is another SS member in BCS, maybe he will post up. Lots of MV activities in Austin, San Antonio, Houston and Dallas. You've got the Museum of the American GI there in CS. See their web site and visit one day. Lots of WWII armor. Now is a great time to get a...

    half track tracks

Don't forget you need some specialized tools like the volute spring compressor. You might need help putting the track back on if you cannot use a forklift, it is heavy and ackward. I would charge by the hour.

    Deuce Tractor Hard Top

When the 275A2's were built back in 1966-67, you only got a hard top (arctic enclosure) if you were going to the arctic, and then it was the whole thing, fuel personnel heaters, engine heater, etc., and back then, it was a kit, not equipped from the factory. The 275 has the same cab as...

Back to the original question, to run the 911: 1. Class A license w/airbrake endorsement, 2. Registration with TXDOT 3. Registration with USDOT 4. $500,000 liability (intrastate) 5. Drug testing consortium membership 6. Overwidth permits. 7. Safety equipment (fire ext, warning...

    Recovery disaster - Long

Guys you are getting off track. Trailboss had already brought his 818 home and gone through it. He was now using it for what he bought it for, pulling trailers. The ole Cummins just came apart for whatever reason. It is a risk we all face anytime we use a mechanical device.

    m113

Guys that is the famous "Wood Tiger Cub" created by the minds at Southeastern Equipment, Augusta, GA. Many, many of these were used by power line contractors. Remember there was a period in time when this stuff was not viewed as a collector's item.

    Hello from Texas

Do a forum search for "Ft Sam Houston". Buyers have been having all kinds of experiences with the San Antonio deuces. A SS member just had a nightmare? experience trying to fix the injector pump on the base, ended up having to have it hauled. Another SS member flew in from Florida, got a ride...

    Wreckerman's M915 update

An idea I was kicking around was to recreate the "gun truck" 915 variant you see pictures of, with the 105 bed. In my case I need to pull semi trailers, so that would not work.

    Wreckerman's M915 update

Don't forget about joining the "drug testing consortium". That's another $150/yr. I have a newfound respect for all the independent owner/operators out there. There is no end to the cash outlay to get legal, and that is before you buy the first drop of diesel. Anybody complaining about...

Deuce, 5 Ton, M37 windshield frames are in!

Just got my frames from Ted's Trucks and I am very pleased with the quality. No sense in messing around with rusted ones with bad rubber at this price. Now to get the glass cut locally and assemble! My records show the glass to be 16 11/16 x 26 13/16 x 1/4. Sound right???

    like some basic info

No lockers in the Dana 70 rear or Dana 60 front. 715's are ok off road on level ground. The suspension has very little flex so it is easy to loose traction on uneven terrain.

    1958 M56 Brake part--what is it?

It has a switch on the dash. You turn on the switch, mash the brakes, and the brakes stay applied even though your foot releases the pedal. To release the brakes, you turn off the switch. The old 5 ton wreckers have them too.

    Recovery disaster - Long

I thought my misfortune at Ft Polk would have paved the way for good luck for other SS members to come . . . I was pulling onto the Alexandria Hwy from the North Fort Entrance, and a car rear-ended my Ranger pickup going 55 mph. $800 of wrecker bills later I was home with a smashed truck...

M656 8X8 on GSA, just closed

The 656 was at $3000 an hour before close. It was complete and unmolested. The pipeliner's bed was hacked up somewhat and no gin poles or 20K rear winch, was at $1100 an hour before close. I had to chain myself away from the computer to avoid the inevitable.
