New cylinder heads, and compression goes DOWN?!

does your engine make any more noise when cold since putting the larger felpros on? Mine seemed to clatter more, which I figured could be from the pushrod length issue you described... let me know how it turned out.

    M1009 vs. M1008...

Originally I wanted the blazer for off-roading and such, but I've had to use it so many times to haul stuff and tow things, that I think I should have gone with the M1008.

    M1009 vs. M1008...

All, Would a good running M1009 in decent shape be a fair trade for an M1008 with those same features? Is one more costly than the other? The guy over at GL Ft Meade said that everyone wants the blazers, while the other trucks get much less love. Anyways, let me know. I'm considering...

    1986 M1009 Fuel Tank Size

Its 25 gallons. Go with Spectra 25 gal tank and the spectra 25 gal sending unit. Also, get a set of tank straps while you are at it. If your truck has any rust, you are probably going to have to replace some broken bolts. My bumper is slightly bent in and down, so I had to remove the frame...

    6.2L Reman Recommendations...

Ryan, I would do it myself, but I've never rebuilt an engine before! I love taking things apart but after seeing an engine go through a rebuild on powerblock tv, I think there are too many small things that I could mess up. I would love to just take out the old one, put a bunch of new stuff...

    6.2L Reman Recommendations...

Gents, There are a few 6.2 diesel shops that pop up when I do an internet search for "6.2L rebuilt" or anything along those lines. Has anyone purchased a long block from one of these businesses? I've done a quick BBB check on some of them, but most don't even have a rating. One in particular...

M1009 Fuel Tank / Sending Unit replacement

I got the replacement tank straps in from Rock Auto, and was a little disappointed. I didn't mind buying the Spectra brand stuff because it is all made somewhat locally (Canada, at least not China). Well, I guess Spectra is outsourcing now, too... this is what I was billed for and what was...

M1009 Fuel Tank / Sending Unit replacement

Yeah they are only around 90 bucks from RockAuto. After all the work I went through taking this thing out, I don't want to take a chance on a used tank. It is a GREAT time to upgrade to the 31-gal version if you want.

M1009 Fuel Tank / Sending Unit replacement

All, I just removed the fuel tank today. It was quite a job, and it required more than just removing the straps. I had to take out the cross member that supports the pintle hitch to allow the skid plate to drop down. It took lots of time and I ended up breaking a lot of rusted bolts...

Re-Gearing Axles? This Marine Seeks Wisdom.

Hmmm... maybe when it gets a little warmer outside I will have to hit some junk yards in the area.

Re-Gearing Axles? This Marine Seeks Wisdom.

All, First off, thanks for all the help recently. I wouldn't know the first thing about how to fix this stuff without y'all! My question: I don't have much money to spend but I would like to get a little more power when taking off from a traffic light! Shortly after buying my M1009, I...

    $400 a gallon

Even though there are laws against it, most private companies charge more if they know the gov't is the client. When I was PCS-ing across the country, I reserved an SUV over the phone with National at the recreational rate of about $250. When I went to the airport to pick it up, the nice lady...

    Fuel Tank Sending Unit

From what I'm reading on this site and the others, there were two tanks avail: 25 & 31. I've read here that the 27 gal number is actually the 25 gal tank capacity plus the space in the filler neck. The 31 gallon tank is rumored to directly replace the 25 gallon model using the appropriate 31...

    Fuel Tank Sending Unit

Good to know. Thanks for the info. I'll try to locate a spectra 31 gal w/ return...

    Fuel Tank Sending Unit

Thanks for the help Warthog. Unfortunately I'm not looking for stock parts or civilian replacement parts here. I'm trying to see if the 31 gallon sender from Spectra will work in with the 6.2 for the 31 gal tank. From what I've been seeing, they also did a 31 gallon gasser version, so I want...

    Fuel Tank Sending Unit

The Spectra FG12J is the 31 gallon sending unit that I'm seeing everywhere. Does the "w/o fuel return" make it unusable in a M1009? -Sgt Blythe

coal cracker, Is this something that can be fixed with longer pushrods?

    Is this sound normal? (Video)

Lol, I had them polished / cleaned only. I guess they use a belt sander or something. It came back gleaming and perfect, but I told them not to machine a new surface and take of lots of metal. The intake, exhaust, and head surface were all cleaned with something, I dont know what. It was...

    Is this sound normal? (Video)

No, Gen 2 has never worked. I never really troubleshot the problem and currently have that alt unplugged. Eventually I will just remove it and 12v the entire truck.

    Is this sound normal? (Video)

I recently replaced the driver's side head gasket. I used a +0.010 larger Fel-Pro gasket for the 6.2L. I only had the head's resurfaced, I didn't have them machined. I went with the larger gasket because I found a Fel-Pro gasket on that side when I unbolted it and the previous owner didn't...
