Installed a 50 inch led light bar on my M923

Glad to see vehicle LED's going down in price- just 3 years ago this would've been $1000. Have you (or anyone else) had good experience with the 7" round replacement headlights in LED? There seems to be a lot of places selling them now in the $300-400 range.

    Readers HMMWV Rides

You guys aren't helping me... I've been wanting one of those HMMWV's off government planet for a while now... this is making it worse! Nice looking rigs guys- all of them. Can't wait to see more photos and other rigs! Glad someone started a thread like this...

    Survival 109 build

Wow! What a project! I've been wanting to do something like this with my M109a4, but just haven't the time... maybe someday. This is inspirational to say the least.

    75 mph in a Deuce

That's some serious speed in an old truck! My truck (Gladys) will get up to 51 at redline, and 48mph is my usual highway/long-distance speed. Once, I put Gladys in neutral on a wide open grade in rural Montana and got up to 67 before i chickened out (Gladys was loaded and pulling a trailer...

    Block heater making noise

A lot of guys in North Dakota I know have said good things about this type of magnetic heater on those sub-zero days; they use it along with the engine block heater...

    M109A4 Sub-Zero Oil Field

It's been a long time since I was on this site, as my work has changed dramatically over the last year. "Gladys" has been sitting in storage for some time now... I got the fiberglass hard top installed, and coated it with the 'do it yourself' line-x type bedliner. It looks great. Next time...

    M109A4 Sub-Zero Oil Field

Additional stiffness is always good... I didn't think of that benefit. My fiberglass roof sounds like a drum as it sits now (bare fiberglass). I am hoping to stiffen the roof up with a few generous coats of herculiner on the outside. Thanks for the input and suggestions everyone!

    M109A4 Sub-Zero Oil Field

Dynamat seems to be designed more for sound deadening vs. insulation. Right? Here in Montana, we need all the insulation we can get! Thanks plym49 for the suggestion. I ordered 1" thick k flex, rated as R4 insulation. I'll let you guys know how it works out in the future.

    M109A4 Sub-Zero Oil Field

To power our GPS base stations, we use 12v batteries (the commercial truck-size ones last about a week, the motorcycle sized ones about a day). There is ALWAYS an issue of having time/place to charge them up. Solar power seems to be the perfect answer! A GPS Base Station I setup on the North...

    M109A4 Sub-Zero Oil Field

I bought 4 sheets of k flex last night on ebay (through Zoro Tools). Can i use liquid nails to adhere it to the fiberglass you think? Or should i get some of that special k flex adhesive I see sold online? AH- you went with a flexible solar panel. I was overwhelmed last night at the...

    M109A4 Sub-Zero Oil Field

I know you guys like pictures, so to give you an idea of my remote, off-grid work, here's a picture of the job I'm on in Central Montana. We're refurbishing USAF minuteman missile silo access roads all over a 200 sq mi area. If you squint, you'll see 3 dark specks in a horizontal row. Gladys...

    M109A4 Sub-Zero Oil Field

Thanks Stampy. I already bought a roll of aluminum bubble wrap insulation, with plans of using that for insulation. However, the thought of driving around inside a jiffypop bag seems more and more unappealing. I don't see an easy or attractive way to paint or cover it either, since that...

    M109A4 Sub-Zero Oil Field

By the way, in the 2 above photos, you'll see the remaining flap of vinyl top in front of the fiberglass roof. I left that on there as a half-assed water and wind barrier until I can get the roof sealed and attached to the windshield frame. Once that's done, I can slide that last bit of vinyl...

    M109A4 Sub-Zero Oil Field

Gladys has been a fine investment for my business, and opened up a lot more opportunity and provided a lot of comforts out in the remote parts of Montana and North Dakota the last couple years. Unfortunately, the modification process has been slow- since I work out in the field during the warm...

    M109A4 Sub-Zero Oil Field

Here's a photo I took last October (end of construction season) of my field equipment. That's a full-size Polaris Ranger 800XP in the M105 trailer. It fits snug as a bug. If you look closely, you can see the CTIS has been removed as well.

    M109A4 Sub-Zero Oil Field

Wow. Your rig is looking good! You have a thread on your truck? I guess i'll investigate... I'd love to see photos of the interior. As far as the 12v alternator, I'm still debating on that vs. a 24v to 12v converter... the good ones run about $1000. ...thats what the owner of Boyce Equipment...
