M1078A1 won't crank, no power to cab

Got the truck running last night. At first couldn't find the TL551A wire hooked up to the output of the battery disconnect switch. Someone hooked it up to the +24V side of the batteries (which means it stays hot all the time). Truck still didn't have power until we found the battery...

M1078A1 won't crank, no power to cab

Thanks, the schematics are exactly what I needed. We gave up on the getting the truck working when I couldn't figure out where the power was coming from to activate the solenoids. Per the schematics it looks like a wire labeled TL551A that connects to the 24V output lug on the master battery...

M1078A1 won't crank, no power to cab

I got called in to try to help a small local volunteer fire dept get their recently acquired M1078A1 working. Seems someone replaced the batteries but had the two inner batteries placed in reversed, so power cables were hooked up all wrong. Got that fixed. Now have proper voltages from master...

    M818 Tractor Registration Number Location

Good point. Let me clarify. All the other registration numbers I have put on trucks have been on the side of the hood. (One semitrailer I did had it on back as well as sides). Since they will be used in lieu of license plates I just assumed they needed to be visible from the outside.

    M818 Tractor Registration Number Location

I am buying a M818 Tractor. I plan on registering it in Texas as a Former Military Vehicle with the option to use the registration number in lieu of license plates. I have put registration numbers on many other vehicles, but the M818 is throwing me off a little bit due to the location of the...

Half Track transmission front drive shaft seal and spacer

I got around to cleaning up the flange that the seal goes in. What I thought was a fiber washer was actually the part of the flange that the seal seats up against, not a fiber washer. The porous looking edges where the breaks were threw me off.

Half Track transmission front drive shaft seal and spacer

I am needing to replace the transmission front drive shaft seal on my M3 Half Track. The seal that is in it has AT 1805X128 stamped on it. It is a leather seal, so I assume it is a Chicago Rawhide seal, for which I can not find any info on. i found postings on halftrackinfo.com that says a...

Source for M920 Parking Brake Valve

Okay, I finally got around to getting back to replacing the parking brake valve on the M920. Short answer recommendation: Do what it takes to find a TramecSloan valve pn 401035. I could not find any truck parts stores in Houston that stock it and ended up ordering it from Finditparts.com for...

Source for M920 Parking Brake Valve

Thanks guys, I didn't expect this many replies so fast. After posting, I went to the barn (no internet) to continue taking parts of an M715 I recently acquired that I plan on restoring. I have comments for everyones replies, first one first: NDT- Pulling it and taking it to Hou Trk parts was...

Source for M920 Parking Brake Valve

The parking brake valve (valve on dash with knob that turn on or releases tractor air brakes) on my M920 is leaking. Leak seem to be coming from valve and not the lines and fittings. Parts manual shows part number 1073 NSN 2530-01-082-7161. Valve is same as on M915, M916 & M918. As search...

M915 headlight switch problem. Odd. Clues below:

As far as the right switch goes, I went back and looked. I used the S440, and it worked. When I replaced it the last time, I did not use the melted connector. I just put lugs on switch. O'Riellys couldn't come up with a connector so i ordered a Crown Automotive J3205596 connector for $11...

M915 headlight switch problem. Odd. Clues below:

There is good info on relay mod on another SS Thread at https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?67474-Headlight-switch-for-m915a1. Pictures are on post #18. I have added copy of a picture I got off of the internet for the switch pinout. Also uploaded copy of my own wiring diagram.

M915 headlight switch problem. Odd. Clues below:

Well it is time again to replace the headlight switch in my M920. After the first one melted the connector that goes to it, I added the relay fix and haven't had any heating issues. I replaced it with the CarQuest 53-22424 switch, which worked fine. Current problem is some sort of internal...

Does this go on a Half Track?

Anyone have any recommendations on other sites I could post this on to find out what it is??

Does this go on a Half Track?

Yeah, the manufacturer would lead you to believe aircraft related, but then again IBM was making guns. Also, it won't hold many .50 cal rounds.

Does this go on a Half Track?

I bought this a long time ago thinking it goes on the back of a Half Track. Anybody know what it is?

    Blown Head Gasket?

Whatever you use, make sure it can handle the torque requirements.

    Blown Head Gasket?

Before you attempt pulling the heads, you need to find the "special" wrench the army designed to remove the stud nuts on the left hand side of the head. They are pretty much impossible to get off without the wrench. Fortunately I found someone locally I could borrow one from.

    MEP-004 Fuel Strainer

I am not familiar with the MEP004, but from the picture in one of the posts, it looks like the same one used on MEP002 & 3. If you can't find one, send me an email. I have a couple of parts MEP002s I could probably get one off of.
