MEP-802 and 803 Main generator tip.

I know it's been a few weeks, but I just got this information today. Here is a link to an AVR that is supposed to work when the quad windings were burned out by a faulty voltage regulator. https://www.flightsystems.com/standby-generator-ats-controls/model-808-basler-delco-regulator.html...

    Recent MEP 802A report

Yup. Solid ice in the exhaust manifold. And yet it starts like a new car. I've ran it about 10hrs now with no engine issues...

    Recent MEP 802A report

This is what I had to deal with. Mine starts and runs perfect. BUT.... It won't handle a load over 5KW, without the "Battle Short" switch engaged. So is it any better than the 002A's. Short answer is NO, but it's about half as loud. Mike

    Recent MEP 802A report

FOUND IT !!!! My buddy Eric came over and showed me the "AC Circuit Interrupter" Switch. (A toggle switch on the front panel) Works GREAT now.

    Recent MEP 802A report

Ether is Bad Bad Bad...... I've destroyed an 003A withe ether. I was able to get mine out by twisting it with a pair of Channel locks. My top was already off. That made it easier.

    Recent MEP 802A report

I've looked inside the control box and there are only 1 fuse and 1 little push/pull breaker

    Recent MEP 802A report

latest update.... She lives......after 1) Adding oil and filter 2) antifreeze and radiator cap 3) new fuel filter and separator 4) repairing 3 holes on fuel tank (that tank isn't easy to get out) 5) Removing water from top of pistons 6) pouring liquid wrench into the exhaust over nite 7)...

    Recent MEP 802A report

Well if misery loves company, I'm in good company..... Water down the exhaust...In the engine... And to add insult to injury, some ass drilled 3 holes in the fuel tank. I epoxied 1 and tried to fill it, only to find the other 2 drilled through the frame in the bottom. I have to agree with...

    Couple of H82 heater Questions

I think Eric might be on to something with the lower pressure. An incomplete burn may be too much fuel pressure. That would cause sooting. The TM calls for different pressures for different elevations and different fuels for different out door temperatures. It may be that you need to lower...

    Couple of H82 heater Questions

The switch, on mine, is definitely 12, 3 and 6. When it started getting cold around here, I started running Kerosene. the soot went away and burned half as much fuel. The TM calls for 125PSI do you have the correct pressure Thanks Mike

Fixing the Model H82/83 Engineered Air Systems Heaters

Congratz.... I started to bid, but couldn't justify the drive to LA. I've found that my H83 burns cleaner on kerosene than on diesel. Also it seamed to burn 2gals and hr on diesel and only 1gal an hr on kerosene. On start up, mine seams to want to trip out on flame failure due to air...

Fixing the Model H82/83 Engineered Air Systems Heaters

I got mine out and it did the same thing. The high amp draw is due to the start winding not dropping out after the normal opperating speed is reached. There is a cintrifical switch in the motor that tells the start windings to dissengage. Mine doesn't trip the breaker all the time. there is...

    Mep-002a Burning up glow plugs.

The inj pump is an American Bosch. I put my spare Ambak M50 in to see if the gen would even run. I dialed it in and load tested it ran it for about an hr. Absolutly no problems...... I wasn't going to leave the Ambak on there, the button number isn't the same.

    Mep-002a Burning up glow plugs.

I thought about the fuel tank cap as it was shutting down and right after it died (3sec) I opened the cap. There was no big sucking sound... Timing it 1 tooth the other direction was UGLY.... All black smoke out the exhaust and white smoke coming out the valve cover. Naturaly I was thinking...

    Mep-002a Burning up glow plugs.

I must be doing the timing wrong.... It still looks like it's about 3deg off where it should be, and still dieing after 5min. Keep in mind it's an 002a, 2 cylinder not 4. 1) Rotate engine til the pointer lines up with the PC mark on the flywheel 2) Rotatae inj pump til the 1/8" welding rod...

    Mep-002a Burning up glow plugs.

Yeah it's summer time... I checked the 02a Hollinsworth again. It looks like the timing is a tooth off. It runs good though. Being out of time probably doesn't allow the exhaust valve to stay open long enough and builds too much heat. The other one is an 003a Libby. I set it aside for a...

    Mep-002a Burning up glow plugs.

I have 2 generators that burn the glow plugs out. They burn the end off and something boils out of the glow plug. I don't preheat for more than 10 seconds and they aren't getting power after it starts. With a new Champion CH42, the gen will start and run fine. after 5min it will start to slow...

    MEP002 & MEP003 Portable Load Tester

Ok, first off I'm ignorant........ When you are creating a load for a generator, are you wanting a resistive load like a heater or an inductive load like a motor? Does it mater? Bottom line you are wanting to know if the genertator has a steady 60hz under all loads. Right? Mike

MEP003A glow plug conversion to 12Volt

I got the CH42's at O'Reilly's auto parts for $13.50. They had to special order them, but I got um.
