How about this one... now that I see it, I think this may have been what was on it, and it was leaking oil around the cap, so I may have put the cap thats on it now on it.

Wrong answer. One more guess and we go into overtime.
https://www.amazon.com/Stant-10076-Oil-Filler-Cap/dp/B000B8LKPA is the correct answer. and much less expensive then I was paying a few years back.

haha, yeah amazon always seems to have it don't they, and it is the exact one you sent. I figured it would be a generic looking replacement. I was going to try amazon next, I only tried advance auto because someone in the thread said they had them.
Thanks for the link, I'll get one ordered.

EDIT:
Got it ordered, supposed to be here wednesday.

ok, well the day is getting away. Got a couple things I need to do, and then get back to work on the truck. So long as nothing else comes up, I think I can get everything under the hood buttoned up. Still got to finish wiring in the temp gauge and oil pressure gauge though, not sure if I'll get that done today or not.

Ok... I could use some help with where the wires go on the passenger side alternator...

IMG_4460.jpg

I have forgotten, and the diagrams in the TM's isn't to helpful for me. I tried just to find a photo that someone might have taken of the passenger side alternator, but can't seem to find a good one here on SS nor google searching images. I thought I took one of it when I rewired the truck when we first got it 6 years ago, but instead I apparently only took a photo of the drivers side alternator, which I already have wired back up.

I know the passengers side alternator is the one that requires the isolated ground... but all I have is 3 RED wires..... do all 3 of these go on the positive post? Or does the two red wires go on the positive, and the red wire with the white stripe go on the isolated ground"? :shrugs:

I can check for you. The new eyelets have me confused. I think the one with the white stripe goes to the smaller stud and the other 2 go to the main + stud. Do you need me to go look?

Well, you have the pos + stud, the isolated grd stud, and then a little tiny stud? I know on the drivers side the tiny stud just has a small gauge.... brown? wire going to it.

I *think* (which might be dangerous...) that the two red wires go to the + stud, and the red wire with white stripe goes to the isolated grd stud?

RED wire is the 24V power lead. Red with white stripe is 12V lead. It goes to ground on the alt. The small term is not used on the passenger side alt. It is for the tach on the STE-ICE machine.

Just looked at your pic. Your third lead probally goes to the 24V buss. People sometimes add these when they have a problem. Can you trace it back?

Thanks Ken! [thumbzup][thumbzup][thumbzup]
That is basically what I was thinking, just wasn't 100% positive. Didn't want to connect it, and end up with the "magic smoke" when I hooked up the batteries or something.

Hummm.... Ok, so the 3rd lead is not "standard issue"... I'll go back over to the garage and try to trace it back here in a bit, it goes into the wiring harness plastic sleeve.

If you have a multi meter, ohm it to the 24V buss above the heater blower motor to see if that is where it ends up. Look at the pos side off batt2. Is there a extra wire there too???????

yeah good idea, easier than trying to trace them through the plastic.

There is the 3 red wires that I'm holding in my hand, and then the red and white wires that go into the bladed plastic plug

ok... its not what I thought it was....
don't mean to change the subject, but I have a temp sensor that I thought was the GP temp inhibit sensor/switch... but that is apparently the one in the block off plate adapter in the rear of the drivers head...

Now I know the coolant temp idiot light sensor is in the front of the drivers head on the side...

But I still have this 3rd temp sensor that I can't figure out what it is... nor where it goes... I don't even know what it would go to?? What else even needs the engine temp???

I'll take a pic of it when I go back over, and edit this post, but it looks just like the coolant temp idiot light sensor, expect it has two blade connectors instead of just one...??

EDIT:
Here is a photo of the coolant sensor

Here is a photo of the mystery temp sensor:

Ok, updated my previous post about the temp sensor, now back to the alt wiring...

Ok, I connected my digital multi-meter from the "3rd" red wire to the top buss bar (which I'm pretty sure is the 24v buss), and got nothing, no connection what so ever.
So out of curiosity, I removed the cover on the bottom bus bar (the grd bus?) and I didn't get a solid connection... but rather the numbers just continously bounced around all over the place. Not sure what that tells me though... seems like it to something like a resistor or?? maybe??

not sure where you're talking about

The mystery temp sensor goes on back of the right head. It gets plugged in and controls the hi cold start idle solenoid. Not sure about the red cable. I have a battery cable only on the back battery and 1 red wire from the back battery negative that runs to the small single power point over by the master cylinder.

AH ok , forgot all about the temp for the high idle ... So thats the passenger side head?

EDIT:
Just looked at it again, has to be the passenger's side head, as there is no place on the rear of drivers side
Thanks again for the info! [thumbzup]
