I am not sure exactly where it is located...but I think there is a vin also on the frame some place. If you can find that it is probably the real vin and you can see when your truck was truly built.
I have never found a vin stamped on a frame. I have taken apart numerous c/k trucks

From what I recall reading they do have a VIN on the frame. It is located on the top part of the frame, either on the driver or passenger side near the doors and you may need a mirror to see it.

I am gonna go see if I can find mine....

One more option. Go to members rides on the main page, look at 2011 vin info. If your truck has identification numbers on the bumper and tailgate you can get ahold of CARNAC and maybe he can make some sense of all this.

Cucvfreek, When you found vin #, was it on the outside or inside of frame & which side? Driver or Pass. side? Also was it it complete 17 digit vin or just the last 6 numerical #s which denotes only the "serial #" part of the vin which is the number of the frame that goeswith the "cab" of the truck. And you stated it is on side of frame and not on the top side of the frame. This would help.

Smoke, It was on the passenger side about midway in the door only the 6 vin numbers.

CF, That's what I found. It's where the frame starts an angle down. GM started putting them on the trucks & blazers during that time and the the last 6 digits are sequencially numbered. I don't think there is any bed related number, so as long as you keep the cab on the orig. frame, you should never have any vin. # problems with DMV.

Nick, get you a flashlight and a dental mirror and look in area we are talking about and you will find the last 6 digits of the vin. #.

Another way you can ck this #, is to first feel with your fingers on the top of frame until you feel the numbers. Then get you a pc of paper and lay it on top of the numbers, then with a pencil, rub it across the number area and you should be able to see the numbers stamped there.

after searching craigslist for a while i found this truck un jersy for 1500 bucks the glow plugs and starter were rewired to 12v it needs new brake lines witch i did and replaced batterys it starts great it leaks tcase fluid but ill figure that out when it warms up
All trucks sold in model year 1982 have unique fuel injectors that will not fit any later 6.2 ever made. The threads are different. Also all 1982 6.2 diesels have red engine blocks. 83s and later do not.

1984 was supposedly the first model year for military rigs. Something sounds fishy. Who know? Maybe a few early ones were unofficially purchased just to try?

Read the ID tag on the fuel injection pump. I have the entire list that I got direct from Stanadyne. It does not show any 82s or 83s for the military.

Here's the list for all pumps made for 6.2s from 1982 to 1984.

There were no 1987 made in 1987 that is know off likely due to the factory shut down for the new 1988 model year design to re-tool the plants.
.
I've got a model year 1987 diesel Suburban made Jan of 87, and a model year 1988 diesel Blazer made in Sept of 1987.

Production numbers for all diesel Blazers made by GM, civilian and/or military.

1982 - 9438 diesel Blazers
1983 - 7176 diesel Blazers
1984 - 4230 diesel Blazers - also first 23,000 military diesel Blazers
1985 - 2100 diesel Blazers
1986 - 1260 diesel Blazers
1987 - 310 diesel Blazers
1988 - 270 diesel Blazers
1989 - 230 diesel Blazers
1990 - 160 diesel Blazers
1991 - 92 diesel Blazers

I doubt a 2wd cab was put on a 4wd truck. I put a 86 2wd cab onto an 85 4wd and the floor humps are not the same (had to plasma both humps out and swap them). The 2wd cab will interfere with the transfer case. My guess is that they swapped vin numbers, I did this when I swapped my cabs.

Not necessarily true this VIN plate shows my 1009 was built late 83 but if a truck was built in 82 it should be stamped into the plate like this one..
