Oh it will take a lot more than a Deuce ride.
The first ride will be happiness for my 8 yr old though.

BW on a side note I read a few threads here about attempting to put a clutch fan on a Deuce. I was looking at it while it is on the stand. You know the answer may be right under our noses. A 6.2 clutch from a CUCV almost bolts up perfectly. The holes need to be filed out less then a few thousands but what I am not sure of is if the depth will work since my motor it on the stand. The 6.2 fan is also the right diameter but it sticks out 3 inches closer to the rad.

Finished stripping the old motor down. Cleaned all the shratnel out of the oil pan and cleaned the pickup tubes good. A friend of mine is coming over tomorrow to help me get the new one in. His price was a piston from the wrecked motor. I may keep one as well. Will make a nice lamp.

BTW the LDT does have piston squirters and the one for cyl 5 was destroyed on mine so yet more reason to abandon the motor. Bearing had some mild scratches. Not sure if from the shratnel or age.
The old block along with a blow up 6.5 should bring some cash from the scrap yard.

Oh on a side note. I got the gasket for the flywheelhousing to engine block but it also requires removing the rear main seal cover as it goes under it. My rear main seal looks nice and new and someone used sillicone so I tink I will take the new gasket and cut it so it fits over the seal case this waay I still get a flywheel housing seal but don't have to disturb the rear main seal.

Saw a Deuce today with 5 ton off road tires(not MRAP or supersingles). I think they were 11.20's but not NDT's. They looked like the super single treads. I liked them alot.

I'm screwed. I just hit a brick wall. I must have lost a pickup tube. I don't see how. There are 3 pickup tubes on the new motor and I only have 2 from the od one. Does anyone have a picture off the bottom of an LDT motor ? Is it possibvle that third hole on theoil pump doesn't get a pickup tube on an LDT ? The pickup tubes on the new motor are from the PO's LDS swap but I looked on my old oil pmp and it had 3 holes as well so what went in the third jhole ??? I am shutdown until i figure this out. The TM only shows 2 tubes on an LDT but doesn't show enough detail about the 3rd holes ?? I'm screwed.

this is all from memory. on ldt there are 2 pickups, one from the rear which is just a scavenger pump to move oil from the rear to the front sump and one from the front to pump oil to the engine. so there needs to be a discharge on the pump to dump the oil in the front sump. maybe that is your third hole. or maybe the engine has been apart and someone left off the tube that dumps oil in the front sump?

yeah I thought there were only 2 tubes as well. That might make sense. TM 9-2815 210 34p page 101(105 in the pdf reader) shows two tubes. I see gaskets stuck to the upper two holes on my old pump but not the bottom hole ??
In fact looking closely at the oil pump on the new LDT I think it's the original pump as the wire on the nuts looks undisturbed but I can't reach the guy I bought it from. I should have taken pics ...****.

It was just two tubes. The bracket for the one tube bolts over the other holes and does exactly what you said. It made sense when I bolted it up there. Thanks.

Well, finally got back to work on it. Was home today as the little one wasn't feeling good so decided to take advantage of it and work on the Deuce. Go the tranny back in. What a job. It was hot as balls today. Luckily under the Deuce in the shade was alittle beter and I had my giant shop fan blowing although that was more to keep the bugs away.
Some tips to anyone doing a Clutch, tranny swap etc.
You only need to disconnect the front driveshaft at the Tcase and lay it aside.
You will need to completely remove the intermediate driveshaft. That sucks big time. You can get on it with a small 3/8 gun and some extensions if you roll the truck back and forth to turn the flanges.
The Tranny will not fit between the flywheel housing and back crossmember ging up. You need to turn the tranny and jack at an angle until the rear flange is above the crossmember and the input shaft is inside the flywheel housing. Then you can straighten it.
Make sure your jack can lift high enough. I did actually do a dry run with just the tranny jack and it looked like it would make it...Nope. I was 2 inches short(I am irish...lol). I had to build a makeshift a frame inside the cab with two chunks of 6x6 and a 4x4 to suspend the tranny so I could lower the jack enough to get more wood under it. I used a Harbor Frieght tranny jack. It makes it with some wood and since the Deuce tranny sits very flat it was easy to block it up on the Jack and then I used two ratchet straps to secure it to the jack.
Kudos to Ken Kublos for the tool included with his clutch kits. The alignment was perfect. The tranny slid right in with my fat ass laying on my back and using my feet. BTW I lifted this tranny onto the Jack by myself. I would not recommnded it. It was friggin heavy. Also it did not clear the transfer case once on the blocked up jack so I had to jack up the front of the Deuce to get it under.
It's in. Thanks god.
One thing that bothers me is I had to lengthen the clutch lever rod ALOT. About an inch. That seems like alot. I hope there is no problem with the pressure plate. I did have some meat taken off the Flywheel but a few thousands there should not translate into that much adjustment. I made sure I could turn the throwout bearing and that it was not against the fingers.

number one rule> take the top off the trans, it will come out and go in so much easier and you can fill it with oil also. my HF trans jack is the 2000 lb model and it goes up far enough and will roll out from under the truck also, well worth the $200.

put the transfer in neutral and the inter shaft will turn, no need to roll truck.

don't see why you would need to change the adjustment much unless the clutch was really worn out and even then nowhere near an inch. have someone hold the clutch pedal down and see if you can turn inter shaft to make sure it is all working.

I've used the military Neal Tranny hoist that sits on the floor, trans jack, engine crane through the door and the 4x4 across the cab with the come a long. The last 2 were my favorite methods. Using the latter two methods, I use a 3 pt setup with the chain across the front so it droops in the back and then a small adjustable strap in the back to adjust angles. It's really pretty easy once you get your method down. Glad to see it's back in.
