If the owner gets rich and never has to work another day I have no problem with it. I will gladly pay 15 dollars a year for the resources here. I would not even be upset if it was to become a full pay site. But what can I say, I'm an America Capitalist.

How do you know if the site didn't get more than that before, with donations to the site?

I will guarantee you, the number of members registered may exceed 30000, but if anyone thinks there is even half that many active users, your wrong. I bet there is at least 5000 unused or spam bot accounts in the registered members total.

Did anyone ever say this site was a non profit org? If not, what did you think it was?

I personally think this SITE is worth a lot more then a crappy $15, I also think EVERY MENBER should pay a member ship fee, it will weed out the wannabs, this is the BEST MV site on the web, you get what you pay for, if thay do not want to pay, than can go to number 2, 3, 4 sites, I would really hate to see how much money MR. SS put out of his own money to make SS what it is. I know money is tight for a lot of us but everyone of us have PI$$ed away more then $15 a year. If you have something that is great because of a lot of work, it is worth working to keep it great, and this takes $$$$, nothing in life that is worth a DARN is FREE. Tired of the B!TCHING, moaning, crying, ect., this should have been done years ago. So who cares where the money is going, if you can find a BETTER site (won't happen) cheaper, don't let the door hit you in the A$$, and If you don't trust the ADMIN staff to do what is right for SS, again watch out for the door, It took about a 2 year fight to get these fixes, it did not just happen, so shut up, sit down, and ride alone with the BEST MV SITE ON THE WEB.

I have read this complete thread and have a couple thoughts. The only thing you need to worry about as an individual SS member is this, is the site worth $15.00 a year to me. It does not matter what Chris makes off the site it is what it is worth to you. Have you every thought about how much it must cost to maintain this site?? I am sure it would be staggering to know what the real cost of maintaning a site of this quality is. They are not asking everyone to make a $15.00 payment, only the members that use the classified. You use the classifieds to sell stuff and make money, if you took this stuff to an auction you would pay 10% of sales. If you addvertized in the local paper it would cost you more than that for a week. If you don't want the benifit of the classifieds then don't pay. If you do then consider that the cost of doing bussiness. If you think the knowledge and friendship here is worth $15.00 then then payup. If you don't I dought if Chris will boot you out because of that. We have a great site here and it is about to get better and I am going to enjoy the ride. And I intend to pay for that ride and will do that tomorrow.

DH thank you and all the rest of the moderators and the new admin for all you do for the site ( for free ). I'm sure you guys would much rather spend your time talking about MV's rather than dealing with the constant complaining about the classifieds . I don't think there has been a day in the last year you haven't had to deal with the crying about the classifieds . Again thank you guys and keep up the good work .

In his first post he states the following:

I would hope this is accurate information as many have based their actions on this post and I would add I am in full support of the Wounded Warrios Project.

Even if only 1,000 people pay the $15, that is fifteen Grand. Add 30 Vendors and there are a lot more than that and you would add another $3,000.

As I said, the site can be run as a business. I have no issue with that but I would ask that if this is the intention state this unequivocally and clearly for everyone to understand.

MY opinion is, if you don't think SS is worth $15 a year, no matter if you sell or not ( I don't) then watch out for the door, I am tired of FREE LOADERS and the B!TCHING, CRYING, MOANING that thay seem to produce, I know it is the sign of the times but I don't have to like or condone it and on top of this I do not care about toes or feelings eather, so suck it up.

Nobody has to pony up any cash. The site is still FREE.

You can choose to pay a $15 annual fee that will allow you to have a custom title(rank), and use the new classifieds foum to sell your stuff(make money).

That's all.

It was not money that was lacking to fix the TM issue, it was the lack of an IT guy.




Look at it like this, If you want to donate $15 to the site, you will get the same site you had before, plus a few perks that were not available before. It's still your choice. Call it a donation, a payment, a fee, a tax, or whatever you want. You still do NOT have to pay anything to log on and share info on SS.

I am fine with the $15 as stated before. I would like to add that it would be nice to see some of that fee go towards the Steel Soldiers Benevolence Fund. This was a great idea and it is my guess that it could use a yearly boost. Thanks...

Instead of 'premium' or 'paid' tags, how about a star next to the name? Maybe something like silver for $15 and gold for vendors? That fits the mil theme and is discrete. It also provides the opportunity for additional tiers.

I like this idea, as it's not only discrete, but tactful at the same time.

Personally, my contributions to this site will forever pale in comparison to those who came and contributed before me, and it seems like an overly-done moniker might send the wrong message.

There is a lot of hate in this thread. I can already tell by the posts I've read this wont go over well, but "the haters" need to take a real look at how you respond to people that question the $15 fee. A forum is only as good as the content and the members with the knowledge to post said content. Alienating anyone that has something to contribute takes away from the site whether they pay $15/yr or not. Berating a member or suggesting they get banned because they have questions or don't want to pay sounds like bullying to me.

I've also seen alot of assumptions being made. Such as, how this this site operates and who may or may not be getting paid. I am sure Chris operates this as a business and as such I would expect people get paid (in one form or another) for supporting the site. I wont assume who or how much, but lets get real. People don't work for free.

I also recall a previous thread by Chris stating changes were coming and AD revenue already in the bank was going to help pay for it. So clearly this site makes money above all costs whether we contribute $15 to be a paid member or not.
